I am halfway through this book and I am loving it so much. The characters are so damaged with their past that they can’t see that the other person has what the other needs to heal. There is a scene in the book where Hart wants Emma to stay safe and then Emma practically begs Hart not to be nice to her. It it as this moment that I teared up. To me, it is a really beautifully written book to me and I can’t wait to get to the end. I didn’t know that HTTAS was a prequel to this one darn it. No prob, I have it and I will read it next. I chose this one to read first because I liked the cover.

I bought this book because of the reviews and I liked it, but I found it lacking that special something. There were these moments of intense connection and I’d think, yes, here we go, and then it would fizzle, which I think is worse than if these moments hadn’t been there at all. I’m not sure what she should have done to keep the intensity going, I just know that I wish she had.

I’m always struck by DA reviews that discuss the language, because I just don’t notice it, unless it’s a mess.

I’ve already ordered her first book and I am looking forward to Lancaster’s book.

I haven’t read a romance in ages, but after reading this review and the one on Smart Bitches, I’m going to pick it up. Thank you for including an excerpt of the beautifully written passage…that did it.

I’m glad to read your review, because otherwise, like you, I’d have skipped this. The cover and title are offputting because they look and sound exactly like the majority of historical romances published lately. It’s nice to know this book actually has substance, and I’ll look for it the next time I’m in a book store. Of course, then the publishers will think I bought it because I liked the title and cover, but that’s a price that will just have to be paid.

Yes, Scotsman features Hart’s sister. She’s in some ways atypical of a Regency heroine in that she is the pursuer, but the story isn’t wildly original, just fun and sexy and well done. Hart is in it, too, and not as wallpaper.

I will definitely let you know what I think when I read it, Robin. It won’t be right away because I’m still totally caught up in Patricia Briggs’ books and I know better than to try to read something else right now. Your mention of Dahl’s similarity to Julie Anne Long does whet my appetite, though.

I loved her debut novel “To Tempt a Scotsman”! I’ve been waiting for “A Rake’s Guide to Pleasure” to come out for a long time now! Now I’m really looking forward to this after this review! I can’t wait!

BTW I actually love the cover! Not cheesy at all..lol! :)

Janine: I thought about you when I was reading this one, because I wondered if you would resonate with some of the language choices. There were moments that reminded me of Julie Ann Long. If you read it let me know what you think; I’m very interested in your take on the book.

Jill: I have her first book but haven’t yet read it. I think I’ll go back, though, since I assume it stars Hart’s sister Alex (judging by her appearance in the book that felt much like a past character walk-on). And her Scottish husband, of course, lol.
