1 quart bag of toiletries per traveler? Just 1. Gah. How supremely frustrating. I’m determined to carry on and not check. I hate airline travel. Why ate we the only industrialized nation without high speed rail?

JaneJane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways. She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation! Email this author | All posts by Jane

I took the shinkansen bullet train in Japan a couple of years ago and it made me wonder the same thing. I wish we had high speed rail here in the U.S.

I took the train from SF to New York for RWA a few years ago. THREE DAYS on a train. Throw in a bottled water shortage and overflowing toilets. The passengers nearly staged a coup. I’m so happy to be in my own town this year!!

Wouldn’t a coast-to-coast high speed train be ten kinds of awesome?!

MJ — what a horrifying scenario. *shudder*

The same thing happened to me, MJ travelling from NY to LA. We hit a cow somewhere in the desert and were delayed by 12 hours. The toilets became a no-go area and we almost ran out of food.

Then again, we travelled from Seattle to SF and had an official on board magician, lol

Kim - who hates flying and is ignoring the fact that it took 12 hours and 2 planes to actually get to Seattle.

And yet, if there were a train from the UK to New York, I would still take it. :)
