Welcome Cauterize. Feel free to post anytime. Your outlook on unusual historical settings is right down my alley. I’d love to be proven wrong about Amazons in romances but until I see more – or should I say any, since I don’t view this book as a true romance? – all I can do is hope.

First post – long time lurker here…

After reading this summary and review, I will definitely check this book out. I always like historicals that aren’t set during the “usual” periods *cough* Regency *cough*

Ancient Greece was my first true love for history, and I am drooling over the thought of a true warrior woman heroine. I definitely disagree with Jayne over Amazonian potential. The fact that the author knows his history, as far as I can tell, is an added bonus. Nobody, during contemporary accounts of the time, actually describe meeting an amazon; they are always a ‘legend’. Since Bonnamy makes a joke out of it, call me sold on trying this book out!

Alice Hoffman’s The Foretelling also has historical projections of Amazons; I can’t say it was my favorite book, though. It’s a YA/children’s book.
