It definitely just cuts off. I don't have the arc anymore but it doesn't look like the author meant to end it that way.

Any chance the author was going for one of those endings that hangs out there? Maybe just the execution is poor...? Really, the idea of the publisher forgetting to slap the ending pages on there before going to print is just too awful.

so the finished copy of the book has an ending that makes the story seem unfinished to the point that readers feel like some of the book must have accidentally left off? That is some kind of crazy. And yes, the line edits make the arc impossible to read which is too bad because I tried and was moderately interested.

No shit, Susan. The final copy of the book ended there too? That's really a WTF for the publisher. But then Jane just got an arc that has line edits all through it. I don't want to complain about free reading material but, um, seriously publicity staff. Read what you're sending out.

Unfortunately my regular copy of this book ended in the same place, Jayne. That was a "WTF, really?!?" ending for me, too. And based on Celie and John's actions and personalities during the story I found myself feeling sorry for the orphan girl they chose to adopt. Can you imagine the dysfunction in that family?

For what's it is worth to other readers I agree with your entire review. But I also want to say that I really enjoyed Griffin's first book MUCH more. I am hopeful that her third release will be back to that standard.
