Kindle eBook Sales 12% of Amazon Book Revenue for Titles in E-Form
By Jane • Jul 10th, 2008 • Category: Publishing News • •According to an Amazon insider, of the books that are available in eform, 12% of those sales at Amazon are Kindle sales. On an industry wide scale, ebook sales make up only a single digit market share so Amazon would be exceeding the industry scale if the insider’s tip is true.
It’s difficult to know what this means to the publishing industry as a whole other than Amazon, an increasingly powerful player in the market, is dedicated to ebooks and the promotion of ebooks.

Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways.
She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

Math gives me a pain. At All Things D interview Jeff Bezos said: the Kindle is now responsible for 6 percent of the sales of the titles sold by Amazon on Kindle and in print.
Quite a few titles are only available on Amazon in Kindle format and I don’t know how they count books where the physical book is only available on Amazon from the secondary market. So I guess it could be 12% of sales and it does sound like a lot of books.
DS, I think that 12% is of the whole of ebook sales, not books in general. So maybe 6% of total books sales could be right?
Thank you for the update Jane, I am very interested in hearing the real dope on Kindle and ebooks at Amazon!
