CNN digital biz takes a look at the growing ebook phenomenon and cites the advantages such as instant gratification and disadvantages such as the inability to easily rip a book into a readable e-format. Most of the article is nothing that we haven’t heard before.
The part of the story that I found most interesting is the “next frontier” of e-reading devices such as eink color screens and more selection and an e-reader with a keyboard. I would love to see the latter because it would make my reviews so much easier to compose.

I am in the process of putting together a (free) ebook, and find the real advantage of the eformat, and one that is not exploited enough by the industry, is the ability to include pictures that would be unaffordable in print, and to hyperlink.
Otherwise, I just love the smell and feel of the good ole ink-and-paper books.
The funny thing is, Ms. Delors, is that some publishers don’t even include the color copy of the book in the efile. Random House is one of those companies. I always go and download the book cover from the publisher’s website or amazon and add it to my book file, but it’s particularly frustrating. I don’t really understand it. Is it that much more costly to include a jpg of the camera ready print cover?
A bit behind, isn’t it?
I don’t know about you, but I have a feeling that the industry is in for huge changes in the next few years, and I am not talking about Kindle. Whether that will empower writers and readers is another question.
I’m intrigued by the notion of adding hyperlinks.
