St Martins Press Giving Away 2 FREE eBook Editions from Julia Spencer-Fleming

By Jane • Jun 10th, 2008 • Category: Ebooks, Misc • •

I remember seeing this on the SB blog a couple days ago and forgot (or was too busy) to blog about it. Julia Spencer-Fleming writes a mystery series featuring Reverend Clare Fergusson and Sherif Russ Van Alstyne. Today was the relase of Spencer-Fleming’s sixth book in the series, I Shall Not Want.

These free downloads are available right now, through Thursday, June 12. So act fast!

You can download the .pdf versions of In the Bleak Midwinter and A Fountain Filled With Blood at the I Shall Not Want book page of St. Martin’s Press/Macmillan. You have to give up your email address for this, but you are getting 2 free ebooks that are totally DRM free.

One of my favorite reader bloggers, Keishon, loves this series. I’ve been reluctant to climb aboard because I was unsure of the nature of the romance but I Shall Not Want has been marketed heavily toward the romance crowd. Here’s a couple of reviews by Keishon to whet your appetite.

Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways. She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

  1. I have In the Bleak Midwinter in the never-ending TBR pile. I may just download these e-books, so thanks.

  2. I think I’ve read the first three in the series. Reverend Clare is an interesting woman. She’s an unmarried former military helicopter pilot who comes to Miller’s Kill in upstate New York to run an Episcopal parish. She is outspoken and somewhat more activist than her congregation anticipated. The sheriff of the town is married, and he and Clare hit it off as friends as they solve various mysteries and murders.

Their relationship evolves in a very believable manner over the series. I deliberately stopped reading at the end of #3, but fully anticipate returning to the series at some point.

  3. I’ve sped through this series in the past few months, and really enjoyed it overall. I just recommended it to my MIL this weekend, so it’s great to see the first two books are being offered for free! If anyone’s turned off by the priest aspect, the chief of police love interest is an athiest. So while there is religion in the series, I didn’t find it overwhelming or off-putting.

  4. I hate PDF. It’s a hassle to convert, so I’ll be skipping this giveaway.

Thanks for letting us know though.

  5. Chantal,

These two are also available in Kindle format and book two is available for the Sony reader. FYI.

  6. [...] I blogged a couple of days ago, this series has been a long time favorite of friend and fellow reader, Keishon. I trust [...]
