Jayne, IMO, any book that is set/takes place before “you” (the general you ) were born, is a historical. :-)

I’ve noticed the Amish thing, too. I think that I did read a couple of Beverly Lewis’s first Amish trilogy way back, but it just wasn’t my thing.

Bonnie, I’ve read two Bethany House books and liked them. But some of the blurbs for other inspies just haven’t done much for me. As you say, too preachy sounding. I’ve also noticed that Amish and Quaker stories appear to predominate. Kind of like how Regencies dominate the historical market.

I just recently tried my first Steeple Hill book after being burned by some of the more preachy inspirationals (Lori Wick anyone?) and I was pleasantly surprised that it was enjoyable. The characters behaved in a way that rang true to how Christians I know behave and think (flaws and all).

When I go to the book store I’m going to check out this one. Thanks for the review!

I bought this at Wal-Mart based on the cover alone.

Glad to hear it was worth my money! I was never big on “inspirational” romances, though lately Steeple Hill has been coming out with some pretty decent reads.
