“Silver Pigs” sold me on the Falco series and I’ve bought all the ones since then, even going so far as to import from England when they were published there before the US editins.

If we’re stepping outside of Roman Britain, then Michelle Styles has done some nice Roman Harlequin Historicals set in Italy.

DS, “Somewhere in Time” is great too. I love that Lovelace doesn’t pull any punches with life as it probably was then. Sometimes it ain’t pretty.

Lovelace did a time travel (Somewhere in time) where the heroine, a pilot, crashed somewhere in the Middle East and ended up with a Centurion. Fun, light read.

Carolyn Jean, Merline Lovelace did one fabulous book called "Alena" set a little later than this one. It's an old, old Harlequin Historical but you might be able to find a copy though an online UBS. A book I loved from last year is "The Warlord's Mistress" by Juliet Landon.

DS, I’ve heard great things about the Downie series. I’ve got it written down but frankly was slightly put off by the prices. I know both are out in hardcover and it looks like the first is maybe out in trade size. I might go ahead and take the plunge with it to see if I like it and her writing. Thanks for another rec for it.

Maya I adore Falco, Helena, Petronius, Nux, well just about everyone in that series. I need to dig out the next in the series for me and start it up again. While reading this book I kept remembering Falco's less than complimentary things about Britain. I even looked up the II Augusta, Falco's disgraced legion that didn't show for the showdown with Boudiga.
