Ebook Publisher Warning: Ocean’s Mist Press

By Jane • May 5th, 2008 • Category: Ebooks, Publishing News • •

I received a warning regarding Ocean’s Mist Press and a question as to its current status. Apparently sometime in 2006, Ocean Mist announced that it would be closing its doors. Then in early 2007, it was announced that there would be new management. No books were released, although the submissions page gives instructions on submissions for 2007 and 2008 releases. There were no releases in 2007. A new book by Essence is up as a May 2008 release. (No links or names here as these posts are not intended to be publicity vehicles).

The complaints against Ocean’s Mist Press are as follows:

  1. They stopped communicating with their authors.
  2. They will not remove authors books as asked.
  3. They are selling books without paying author royalties.
  4. They have a laundry list of customer complaints.

Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways. She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

  1. I thought they were closed. The owner hasn’t paid any of the authors the monies owed to them yet.

  2. Thank you Dear Author for posting this information. Karen is absolutely correct. OMP is selling books and not paying authors. They have had no updates on their site for over a year, but now they have the audacity to announce a “new” book.

My books are there against my will. I’m in conversation with my attorney.
