Greta, Unfortunately that’s Wussy, Kiddy Fights compared to when I was in school. I went to the toughest Junior High School in the San Fernando valley in Califlornia in the late 70’s. People would gather in an alley after school & wait to see girls that were mad at each other, hated each other over thing’s like guys or bad mouthing each other behind their backs & lord knows what else, would meet in the alley’s & groups of people would stand around & watch because over the day at school the word would get around. They didn’t only kick, punch (no slapping that was an embarrasment) They did thing’s like hit each other with pop bottle’s (GLASS back then, NOT plastic) When one knocked the other down she kneeled over the girl on the ground, holding her down with one knee on one side of her & the other one on her chest. Then she grabbed a handfull of hair on each side of her head & pulled her head up & slammed it down on the ground, repeadily, sometime’s until the back of her head bled. I was horrified. I talked to the counselor at the office, not to be a tattle tale but I was really concerned someone was going to get SERIOUSLY hurt or killed & I care about people. I was never in a clique with the rich kids, the real popular pretty kids, the mean kids, the kids that were put down & made fun of by all the other kids in the cliques but I was nice to everyone, I talked to everyone & treated them all the same so they were by the most part, nice to me. When people were short money for lunch, snacks, needed help with anything etc. I was there for them if I was able to help. Some people were the same. Some were the kind of people who just took advantage, & then there were those few people that just didn’t like anyone and liked to try to pick fights, even if you hardly knew them. Well here’s the ironic part. Those bad ass girls that everyone was afraid of including me, told me if anyone ever threatened me to let them know & they’d make sure no one hurt me. I was dumb founded, appreciated the offer, but wanted no 1 hurt!

Hey, great review!

I loved this book - all of it!! Must say I disagree with you about the final third, I was on the edge of my seat trying to work out who she would end up with.

Luke isn't American, though. I seem to remember it says he lived in America but he's from England, somewhere in the Midlands, I think. Great review, though.

I also bought this book on Karen's recommendation (I'm 1/3rd done) and will read the DA review later. I'm enjoying the book so far, and given the American cover, the book will hopefully do well as a mainstream book.

I just ordered her first book, Marshmallows For Breakfast, from Amazon. Jane, as usual, thank you for a great review. I look forward to reading this one.
