Terry Pratchett Donates $1 Million to Alzhiemer’s Research. Fans Strive to Match It.

Match It for Pratchett is the slogan of fans who are taking up the flag raised by acclaimed author, Terry Pratchett, who recently went public with his personal fight with the illness. So far £ 34,000 pounds has been raised. You can donate either to the Alzheimer’s Research Trust directly or through Match It for Pratchett.

A friend of mine has macular degeneration. She says that she is grateful for having contracted the disease in this time period because of the rapid advances in medicine. In her ever hopeful way, she believes that the cure or a treatment for these diseases is only a few years away. Money is the one thing that can make the hopes of my friend and ultimately people like Pratchett come true.

Thanks GiniaJ for the heads up.

  1. Just yesterday there was news of a possible advance in understanding macular degeneration. The researchers were experimenting on mice, so the usual disclaimers apply:

While this does not prove that the same principle works in humans, or that a drug could be developed to harness this without side-effects, the researchers described the work as a “major breakthrough”.

  2. I didn’t know I could love this generous, brilliant man any more than I have, but here he goes… Sigh.
