I like Victoria Thompson's books best. So far she's written 7 or 8 books in this series. Murder on Aster Place is the first book and the main character is Sarah Brandt who is a New York City midwife. Rhys Bowen writes the other series about an Irish immigrant named Molly Murphy. The first book in her series is Murphy's Law. I agree the artist should get credit for this cover. Based on your review I'm glad I did. I read and enjoyed a couple of historical mystery series in 2007 which take place in New York City in the early 1900's.
