Chuck Norris to Engage Penguin in Fight
By Jane • Jan 2nd, 2008 • Category: Publishing News • •
Author Ian Spector wrote “The Truth About Chuck Norris” based on an internet chainmail of mythical facts featuring Norris. I.e., factoid no. 1 is “Guns don’t kill people. Chuck Norris kills people.”
Norris is unhappy about the publication of this book and has sued Penguin, the publisher of the book, because it portrays Mr. Norris as engaging in racist, lewd or illegal activities. Because the title is “The Truth About…”, Norris alleges that readers will be misled about the veracity of the facts like “Chuck Norris is the reason why Waldo is hiding.”
The suit is premised on trademark infringement, unjust enrichment and privacy rights.
I suggest Chuck reads the suit of Falwell v. Hustler.
Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways.
She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

Awww, Chuck, say it ain’t so.
I adore that headline. I love the imagery! A penguin pecking at Norris’ knees!
“Always be alert for the Chuck is all-mighty. The Chuck knows where you live and has no problem taking your woman…repeatedly.”
I bought it. It’s awesomely funny. Chuck Norris FTW! (Only, I hope Penguin prevails in the lawsuit.)
