DVD Sales Feel the Pinch of Consumer Disinterest

The book world had been bemoaning the poor sales of books so let’s give Mr. DVD a hand as he joins the community of declining entertainment sales. Apparently, DVDs that once sold 20 million copies barely scratch the 10 million number AND poor Mr. DVD unit price has dropped 15% during the first nine months of the year.

Sadly the book industry doesn’t work that way. Mr. Book sees a decline in sales and ups the prices of books, further driving readers away. The Gizmodo writer suggests that DVD sales have dropped, in part, because the value of the entertainment. I voted that movies have sucked and that is why we haven’t bought any DVDs (other than children’s movies) in the last few years.

    I second this vote. I thought I was just getting jaded when every time I go to the theater I see NOTHING worth spending $10 on.

    What about sales of DVDs of television shows? Television has improved in the past several years, IMO.

    I hunt for the ones at I want at Costco, for when they are really cheap. Recently I got Mr. and Mrs. Smith in a three-pack of A. Jolie movies for $8.99. I get to have my Smith fix and hubby watched the other two when I was working on The Book That Would Not Finish.

    I say that’s not a bad deal.
