One day this week, the Kindle ad on Amazon had a photo of the Kindle with changing pictures of content. One of the blogs it showed was Boing Boing. I got a real kick out of that. You think Cory Doctorow is a Kindle fan?

Go for it. It would be a great addition to the whole big conversation that is Amazon. And I’m sure there are readers who don’t even know they need Dear Author yet. How could you deprive them?

If they take a full feed, no censoring, then it might be entertaining.

Hypocritical? Maybe a little, but I think the real problem would be that if you’re getting revenue from Amazon, it creates the perception of bias. Are you nudging the reviews in the direction of selling more books for Amazon? I very much doubt you would (short of being kidnapped by Amazon representatives at the next RWA Nationals and force-fed mind-altering drugs subjecting you to their will), but it’s going to be an easy thing for someone to say if they don’t agree with one of your reviews.

That doesn’t stop me using an affiliate link when I review a book on my blog, and I think syndicating Dear Author through the Kindle falls into the same category, but it’s an issue to be aware of.

I chose “Yes, we shouldn’t be the only ones tormented by your blog.” because I think it fits the personality (and I mean that in the good way) of this blog so well.

However, that’s only because you’ve been critical of the Kindle, which makes my reasoning seem hypocritical. (Meaning, if someone had been touting the “revolutionary” wonders of the Kindle, and I found out they were affiliated with Amazon.com that resulted in a financial gain, they would lose credibility with me.)

At the same time, I strongly support the potential increased exposure being listed on Amazon.com would bring. I want MORE people to read Dear Author.

Can I ride the fence and support the idea but recognize the cost (perceptions of compromed integrity) may not be worth it?
