Scott Adams, Dilbert Creator, Predicts iPhone Will Kill Print Newspapers

banner_dilbertblog_245×90_left_20070601.gifScott Adams, the creator of the venerable office cartoon, Dilbert, believes that iPhone and devices like it (which he calls the iClones) will kill the print newspaper. If you can carry the internet in your pocket, what would you want with a print newspaper even with the new soy ink that isn’t supposed to rub off on your fingers but still does?

“When you have a web browser in your pocket, a printed newspaper is redundant,” says Adams. He further goes on to say that the articles that the newspaper will deliver (online, of course) will be filtered by the citizens and voted upon creating a more democratic version of the news. Adams believes this is a good thing. I’m a wait and see kind of girl.

JaneJane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways. She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation! Email this author | All posts by Jane

But I like having my print newspaper with my breakfast. It’s more for the experience than just the information contained. It makes me slow down and relax for that time.

I haven’t read a printed newspaper in years. With the Internet, I go to the sections I want quickly and don’t get black smudges on my fingers.

We have a newspaper delivered but it’s just for local news. Everything else I get from the net. I’m eager to get my iphone and I’m amazed to a see an ad the other day where our local McDonalds is now a wireless hotspot.

I wonder if the bookstores, like BN and Borders, will eventually go to free hot spots instead of the pay version. I hate the pay version.

Newspapers? I haven’t picked one up in years, I agree with Scott, why have a 10 - 20hr difference in the news if you can have the web in your pocket

PS: (years since I previously used my PSP with wi-fi) Now I’m an iPhone junkie, I even read the reviews of products before taking them to the counter while shopping…
