Harry Potter DVD to come with digital media version

Warner Home Video is going to include a two additional versions of the Harry Potter movie in its latest DVD release. One for the PC and one for digital media devices. There is no word as to how the digital movie file will be encrypted although ArsTechnica speculates that it will be tied to Windows Media but that would exclude the iPhone, iPod, and iTouch users.
However, crippled the digital media is in its nascent form, it is still a step in the right direction, particularly when you have music executives who argue that ripping a CD that you own is copyright infringement. Part of whether this new idea works will depend on pricing and format. If you charge more for the DVD to get another file, I think most people will resist because there are plenty of free programs available that allow you the ability to do what Warner is offering. Second, if there isn’t more than one format available, a large segment of the portable video watching community could be excluded.
I would love to see publishers take a step with Warner brothers and release paperback + efile content.

Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways.
She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!
