Thanks Jane. That explains it then.

BTW, what about Bookscan's list for that week. Was it similar to USA Today?

Anne - the NY Time list isn't updated online until a week after it is in print, I think although that may have changed but in any event, the results are printed in the Sunday Book Review section. All the results, though, are done by Wednesday and I think that the editors get the call from the Book Review as to the placement of their authors.

I was expecting LU in the top 10 list, though not necessarily in the top 3. I heard at the BDB website that it is #2 in NYT and that Ward is thanking her supporters. I did feel that she has a bigger chance there to secure a better place as that list breaks down the books by fiction/non-fiction, etc... No wonder authors would always quote their NYT bestselling status more than the USA Today. The NYT list has not yet been updated, maybe they have inside information or maybe its not the list that was referred to in Ward's website.

I'm surprised that Nora Roberts book, a reissue, made it above LU. I've seen its rankings at Amazon, and it is way, way down the 10000+ rank.

I was just looking over the romance bookscan numbers and wondering why a bunch of titles that have been out a couple of weeks suddenly had their placement drop 40-50 places. Then I realized that this was the week the October category titles came out.

Now I have a pretty healthy respect for Harlequin's muscle and market share.
