NBC to Give Away Free Rentals of Its TV Shows

nbc.jpgNBC had a public breakup with iTunes, moved to Amazon, and some speculated it was due to NBC being unhappy with pricing. But in a surprise move, NBC announced that it will start offering free rentals of its TV shows. The “free” will be subsidized by ads and is limited in time, meaning after 7 days, the download doesn’t work anymore. But, free is free and its a download, rather than a streaming video.

And it’s apparently supposed to be PC only at first, leaving us Mac users out in the cold for a while. :(

Grrr. I’m wondering if that’s punishment to us Mac users since we’re probably more inclined to use iTunes anyway. We actually had purchased the The Office season last year. Oh well, I guess NBC won’t be getting any of my money.

Hate rentals. I never get around to watching the show during the time I’m given– I’m also bad with library books so it’s just a procrastination issue. I know better than to pay for download rentals.

I’m also hesitant to download the software because of the DRM and Sony rootkit crisis a while back. Looks like this PC user will be sticking with itunes also.
