Dear Author: Romance Book Reviews, Author Interviews, and Commentary

Big Publishing Deals which Amount to a “Who Cares” from me.

By Jane • Aug 20th, 2007 • Category: Publishing News • •

Doubleday signed Michael Wolff who will be writing the biography of Rupert Murdoch including the recent takeover of Dow Jones. The deal is “high six figures” and will be edited by Phyllis Grann.

Tony Blair hired Robert Barnett to shop the Blair memoir. Barnett, a DC attorney, also agented the book deals for former President Clinton and former Fed Reserve Chairman, Alan Greenspan. Reportedly, Barnett sold the Clinton memoir, My Life, for $10 million to Random House and the Greenspan book, The Age of Turbulence, for $8.5 million to Penguin. Clearly Michael Wolff and Rupert Murdoch should have hired this guy and not settled for the embarassing 6 figure deal. No matter how high six figures, it might be, it still only has 5 zeros and not 6. Murdoch has to be ticked off about this.

Karl Rove knows what’s what. He’s talking to Barnett but not yet hired him to shop his book on how he snowed the US people into believing anything, including that the moon is made out of cheese. (I made that latter part up but you get the picture).

Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways. She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!
