Harlequin’s Profits Are Increasing in Part Due to Online Retail Sales
By Jane • Aug 3rd, 2007 • Category: Publishing News • •Publisher’s Weekly reported that Harlequin saw a total revenue increase of 1.2% for the second quarter of 2007. Of interesting note, online retail sales have grown by double digits and ebook sales has also increased. Harlequin launched its Spice Briefs line which are Harlequin’s ebook publishing efforts. Spice Briefs will cost $2.99 for erotic ebooks between 5,000 and 15,000 words. There will be two titles each month and Harlequin is running a $.99 special until August 15. You can currrently buy Sarah McCarty’s Brief, Letting Go and Delilah Devlin’s, Invite Me In.
More importantly, though, beginning this month, Harlequin will offer an ebook of every new book it release for a total of 1,300 books per year. Another innovative thing that Harlequin does is offer all of its series romance books one month in advance so right now a reader can go buy, download and read, all the September offerings. My love for Harlequin grows each day.
Via Publisher’s Weekly and Harlequin.
Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways.
She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

Briefs? Makes me think of legal docs. Or tidy whities. Probably not the images that the Hqn marketing wants readers to associate with that line…
I’m thinking since it’s Spice and it’s erotica, that the “briefs” as underwear might be intentional. ;) I’ve always read it that way!
Except they persist with that whole DMR thing which just drives me mad. It too me ages to figure out how to download an MS Reader version of what I wanted.
Every new book also available in ebook form. Oh, yes.
A line called “Spice Briefs”. Oh, help.
Sarah McCarty. Hmm, worth a look. Is it a western?
Shopping at eharlequin. They won’t even sell me an MS-Reader book when I’m not using a Microsoft OS and IE - damned annoying.
I’ve been downloading books in Mobipocket format from the eharlequin website, and it has a bookshelf, so I can redownload my already purchased books again.
