USA Today Besteller List, Week Ending July 29, 2007

Shelf Awareness says that the Harry Potter buzz has reduced from a roar to a hum, but the USA Today list shows that it is still dominating the reader world with all 7 books in the top 12. I don’t know how many people have asked me in the past week whether I’ve read the book yet. Almost as many who ask if I still like my IPhone. I haven’t and I do.

Sandra Brown’s paperback release of her hardcover, Ricochet, snuck in at number 5.

  1. 1

Up Close and Dangerous: A Novel, Linda Howard (Ballantine), $25.95, No. 48 (Peak 19). I don’t know if her readership is waning or whether she is suffering ill effects from being released so close to Harry Potter.

A copy of this was sitting on the shelf at my library, along with Evanovich’s Lean Mean Thirteen. Normally both authors’ new releases are in such demand that even with 100+ copies, there is a very long waiting period for readers who have requested a copy. Maybe demand is down. Or maybe they were shelved instead of used to fill hold requests by accident.

I skimmed the book. Boring. It read more like a survival guide than romance or suspense, I thought. Of course, Linda Howard is one of those authors I used to love but now am ~meh~ about.
