Publishing Deals for Upcoming Books
By Jane • Jul 17th, 2007 • Category: Publishing News • •I’ve been lax about this but thankfully there weren’t too many sales whilst I was absent.
I’m thinking that this is a romance, but I’m not familiar with Highland Press. It has a bit of an unbelievable feel to it since most kidnappings for ransom seem to take place overseas.
Ginger Simpson’s SPARTA ROSE, in which a daughter is kidnapped as a negotiating chip for her father’s Tennessee ranch, to Leanne Burroughs at Highland Press, by Joan West at Bennett & West Literary Agency.
These inspirationals need to be more detailed.
Janice Thompson’s BOOM TOWN, to Krista Stroever at Steeple Hill, in a nice deal, by Chip MacGregor at MacGregor Literary.
Hmm. It sounds a little like Succubus Blues.
Jill Myles’s SEX STARVED, the humorous adventures of a newly-fledged succubus as she copes with her new “life,” the need for sex, and the dangerous vampire and sexy angel she’s torn between; and SEX DRIVE, featuring a succubus road trip to New Orleans, to Micki Nuding at Pocket, by Carolyn Grayson at Ashley Grayson Literary Agency.
Assume this is a continuation of her witch series although the name sounds different.
Anya Bast’s THE DARKEST KISS, to Cindy Hwang at Berkley Heat, in a nice deal, by Laura Bradford at Bradford Literary Agency (World).
This was categorized as a Thriller sale. I wonder if these are romances as well?
Catherine Spangler’s TOUCHED BY LIGHT, the third of her paranormal thrillers in her Sentinel series, centering on reincarnated Atlanteans and the psychic human conductors who help them track evil entities, to Cindy Hwang for Berkley Sensation, by Roberta Brown of the Brown Literary Agency (World).
Assassins are the new black.
Author of ‘Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy Leslie Langtry’s next two fun contemporary romances in the Bombay family of Assassins series, to Leah Hultenschmidt at Dorchester, by Kristin Nelson at Nelson Literary Agency (World).
This sounds great and dark.
Brooke Taylor’s debut UNDONE, in which a troubled teen fulfills the five enigmatic last wishes of her daring best friend only to discover the dark secrets of a shared past that she never knew, to Emily Easton at Walker, by Kristin Nelson at Nelson Literary Agency (NA).
Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways.
She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

I pitched SEX STARVED as more of a ‘Stephanie Plum meets Anita Blake’ type story…but I do have a feeling I’ll be getting the comparison to SUCCUBUS BLUES a lot.
Or Jackie Kessler’s wonderful HELL’S BELLES. :) I can live with it!
The Darkest Kiss is actually a futuristic vampire novel.
