Ronda Thompson Passes On

By Jane • Jul 11th, 2007 • Category: RWA • •

I heard at the signing from Sue Grimshaw that Ronda Thompson had died, maybe due to pancreatic cancer. Thompson was recently well known for her books on the Wulfs of London series.

Condolences to the Thompson family.

Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways. She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

  1. That’s so sad. My thoughts and condolences go out to her family.

  2. Oh, how awful! I have to admit that when i saw this heading I was hoping it was another abbreviated subject line and you were going to say passes “Rhonda Thompson passes on some information.”

Just too sad. I’ll keep her family in my prayers.

  3. That is terrible news.

  4. Oh no, that’s terrible. My condolences to her family.

  5. My heart goes out to her family at this time. The reading world lost two great authors in less than a week.

  6. I’m so sorry to hear this. My condolences to her family.

  7. Thank you everyone for your condoloences and sympathies. I’ll relay this to her family when the time is right. It’s warmed my heart to see how many people her words have touched in some way. From a friend’s perspective, she was not only an incredible writer, she was an amazing person.

  8. Ronda was my cousin and your thoughts and prayers are very comforting to me. Ronda had been sick for over a year but unfortunately, the doctors did not find the cancer in time. I made two trips in two weeks from Kansas City to see her in the last month and was grateful that she went quickly as this kind of cancer is terrible. Ronda was just coming into her much deserved recognition and I will forever miss her. Please keep her family in your thoughts.

  9. Ronda was a dear friend, a wonderful storyteller, talented author and kind-hearted soul. There aren’t words enough to say how much she’ll be missed.

  10. So sorry to hear this. My prayers are with her family at this time. I will miss her books as I have enjoyed reading them. Sorry to hear this. May God be with the family in their time and need. God Bless!

  11. We heard that she died peacefully after a recently diagnosed illness of throat cancer (yes, she was a smoker) — a week prior they did exploratory surgery but it was too late to do anything as the cancer had spread. She was 51.

LionHearted Author of ORACLE, Kathrine Greyle (aka Jade Lee) passed along this info: “Charlotte Goebel had a wonderful idea for a tribute to Ronda. If you would like to write a short tribute — a special memory you have of Ronda or just your thoughts about her — email them to Charlotte by early tomorrow evening (Thursday) at goebel-ca@actx.edu Charlotte will compile all the contributions and they will be handed out at the service so that people can read them. I’ve talked to Ronda’s family about this and they loved the idea. Also, if you know of anyone else I’ve missed who might like to do this, please pass the word.” We are hopeful that Charlotte will also pass along to the family any late-commers email memories, too.

We were proud to be the publisher of Ronda’s first book, ” ISN’T IT ROMANTIC?” — a romantic comedy “too long for the category publishing houses at 100,000 words ” and “just too-too” for NYC publishers to take a chance on “the politically incorrect mud wrestling midget named Wanda” — Ronda’s favorite chapter, too, that she refused to cut. We loved it all! Thank you Ronda for the “out-loud laughter” that kept us up all night and your wacky, wonderful characters that will live in our hearts forever.

  12. The cancer was in fact ovarian and pancreatic. I’m not sure if her smoking contributed to the tumors, but it probably messed up her immune system, if nothing else.

I just wanted to clear that up so there wouldn’t be different stories floating around. Yes, she was far too young to have been taken from her fans and loved ones.

That’s a lovely tribute to her writing and books. I still haven’t read “Isn’t it Romantic,” but it’s going on my list as of now.

  13. I’m shocked to hear about Ms. Thompson; I just learned about her death on Heather Holland’s MySpace blog. My sympathies to her family and loved ones. I was looking forward to more in her Wulf series.

  14. I just picked up one of her books for the first time last week. I loved it so much that I ran out & bought the rest the next day. (the “Wild Wulf” series) I’m so sorry to hear that she’s gone. My sympathies to her family and loved ones.

Always will be in my heart and in my mind. My real feelings of support towards her family.

  20. No matter what I say, it won’t be enough, but, I am so sad and my heart goes out to her family.

We can only hope Ronda is somewhere with all the magical beings and writers and friends who have gone before her.

I bought her book, Confessions of a Werewolf Model, and went searching for the sequel. That’s how I found out Ronda had passed.

I will buy her 1st series and hope, somehow, that will keep her in everyone’s thoughts and minds.

Love and peace to her family and friends.

Be thinking of you Rhonda and your Family

  27. I have just heard of her passing; and my deepest sympathies out to her loved ones, both friends and family. However, while I was in news of this tragic occurance, a thought sprang to life in my mind. Since Ronda was never able to write the fourth and presumed last book of the Wulf series, I was wondering if it was possible that someone could write it for her, in loving memory, also making the heroine of the novel Ronda, after her. It was just an idea, but I have hope. I pray that she is at peace now.

  28. oh no.

i just finished reading the cursed one today (and the untamed one last night) and here i came looking for new books, i was so keen to know about those five sets of eyes.

this news is very sad indeed and i wish her family all the best.

also, lirose, i think you’re idea is beautiful :D

  29. I just found Confessions of a Werewolf Supermodel at the bookstore and came here looking for other books. I am truly sorry to hear of Ms. Thompson’s passing. I enjoyed her writing so much. MK, Peoria, AZ

  30. Like the previous poster, I just picked up Confessions of a Werewolf Supermodel awhile ago and loved it and found out about Ronda Thompson’s passing when searching to see when her next book is out.

My sincere (if belated) condolences to her family and friends. It was fun to see in her world for a little while, and it’s a shame that there won’t be more opportunities to see it.

  31. i’ve just read Armond, Jackson and Gabriel’s stories. noone writes romance paranormal like Ronda. I treasure these books.

  32. I sorry to hear that Ronda passed away.

Most writers become quite attached to the stories they create. They care that the story is told, and that it brings as many readers as possible the same level of enjoyment it brought them.

I think the Wulf series deserves to be completed. At the moment it’s a bit like a beautiful building that’s under construction and waiting to be finished. As it sits, I can see about two to four stories that are waiting to be told.

    That’s my two cents anyway.

The profits from any additional books could go towards a scholarship fund for young authors, or into a trust fund so that her decendents can go to college.

  33. I have just found out the news this is awful to hear. My heart goes out the the family. I just found her wild wulfs of london series and was hoping the series would go on, this is how i found out. I think she needs a remeberance, someone should complete the series. someone who could write as well as she could and who won’t change the stoy line.

    My Blessings,
    tosha

  34. I was just searching for other books of Ronda’s and have just discovered her death. I read her Wild Wulfs of London series, and am distraught. The literary world has lost a great, giving, kind person. I can’t believe I didn’t find out sooner…

  38. No, no more Wulfs of London; she passed away before writing another book…………
