Kenyon’s Hat

JaneJane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways. She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation! Email this author | All posts by Jane

Thanks for posting the pic of Kathryn S! She’s a good friend, but lives across the continent from me now - nice to see her in Dallas :)

  2. 2

And I should add, even nicer, as I’m at home :(

It cracks me up how Ward still dresses like a lawyer and James looks like a college prof. Of course these are two professions I’m intimately familiar with –do all authors look like their former or alter-professional lives? I don’t know where that would put Kenyon’s pseudo Victorian madame/widow outfit, but I gotta say that the hat is brave. Or crazy. But given how generous she was with the signing, I’m going with brave.

All I can say is “I hate you!!”

Not really, but I sure am jealous, sounds like you ladies are having a GREAT time.

HEY! Anyone check out the RWA announcement this morning?

    Let the shell games begin!

Looks like EC, LI, and Samhain may have just lost status with them.

Effective July 15, 2007, in order to officially participate in RWA’s National Conference, a publisher must meet the following criteria: (1) it is not a Subsidy Publisher or Vanity Publisher

    3. The Board updated the definition of Subsidy Publisher or Vanity Publisher to: “any publisher that publishes books in which the author participates in the cost of production or distribution in
any manner, including publisher assessment of a fee or other costs
for editing and/or distribution.” This definition includes publishers who withhold or seek full or partial payment of reimbursement of publication or distribution costs before paying royalties, including payment of paper, printing, binding, production, sales or marketing costs; publishers whose authors exclusively promote and/or sell their own books; publishers whose primary means of offering books for sale is through a publisher-generated Web site; publishers whose list is comprised of 50% or more of its books
written by authors who are principals in the publishing company; and
publishers whose business model and methods of publishing are
primarily directed toward sales to the author, his/her relatives and
    associates.

Did you guys catch what the clueless idiots mumbled there?

    publishers whose primary means
of offering books for sale is through a publisher-generated Web site

Thanks for sharing! I didn’t make it to nationals this year, and this is a nice way to not feel left behind. :)

    Ann Christopher’s so pretty!

  12. 12

I agree Karen, I have one of her books to read, moved it to the top of my TBR mountain.

  13. 13

Look at Eloisa James and Kathryn Smith!! I probably would have fainted at their feet! I lurve them!

Whats with JR Ward and the glasses? Every picture I see of her she is wearing sun glasses. It’s weird.

  14. 14

Thanks for sharing the piccies - keep ‘em coming!
Chantal - what’s even weirder is that she’s wearing her sunglasses inside! I really don’t get why some people do that. Maybe she has some kind of eye disorder? Or maybe it’s her inner rock star coming out?

  15. 15

Thanks for the Farrah Rochon fan photo, those are my friends, I couldn’t be there, so it’s good to see them.

  16. 16

I agree Karen, I have one of her books to read, moved it to the top of my TBR mountain.

Keishon, which of her books have you got? I recently read Risk, and loved it, will deffo be buying her again.

Whats with JR Ward and the glasses? Every picture I see of her she is wearing sun glasses. It’s weird.

Can somebody answer this please, I’ve always been curious myself as to why she wears them all the time. I just assumed she had a problem with her eyes.

  18. 18

Wow, I look as if I’d been on drugs. (I swear I wasn’t!) (Well, I might have suffered from an overdosis of sugar. *g*)

It was so lovely to meet you in person, Jane!

  19. 19

Jane, it was fabulous to meet you and the Mighty Sybil in Dallas. And Chantal, I really hope you wouldn’t faint at my feet, cause then I’d try to revive you and that photo would be ALL OVER the internet! :-) It’s a very sweet thing to say though, so I’m blowing kisses at you.

Teresa — luv you too, babe! :-)
