Publishing Deals for Upcoming Books
By Jane • Jun 22nd, 2007 • Category: Publishing News • •Normally I don’t report on non fiction deals because I don’t read non fiction for leisure. But these are bloggers we know writing about a topic we love. Congrats ladies.
Sarah Wendell and Lay-Ping “Candy” Tan’s SMART BITCHES WHO LOVE TRASHY BOOKS, based on the popular blog, a funny, somewhat bitchy and adoring look at the world of romance novels, from the authors to the covers to the conferences to the audience, to Sulay Hernandez at Touchstone Fireside for Fireside, in a nice deal, by Daniel Lazar at Writers House (NA). (Touchstone Fireside is a Simon & Schuster imprint)
I do like reworking of fairy tales.
Carolyn Turgeon’s GODMOTHER, about Cinderella’s fairy godmother and the secret she’s hiding about the fateful night of the ball, which has cursed her to live out her days on earth as a human, to Lindsey Moore at Three Rivers Press, by Elaine Markson at Elaine Markson Agency.
Allison Bottke’s I COULD HAVE DANCED ALL NIGHT, a new series called VA VA VA BOOM in which Boomer aged women entrepreneurs are living, loving, and enjoying making a difference in their world…the first book is set in a “disco” hair salon, to Don Pape at David C. Cook, in a nice deal, in a three-book deal, by Steve Laube at the Steve Laube Agency (world).
I didn’t realize that Sydney Croft was a writing team. I always thought it was Ione.
Stephanie Tyler and Larissa Ione writing as Sydney Croft’s three additional books in the erotic ACRO series, in which secret agents with superpowers are engaged in a global war, to Shauna Summers at Bantam Dell, by Roberta Brown of the Brown Literary Agency (World).
I didn’t read Spirited Away by Miles but heard it was sweet.
Cindy Miles’s ONLY IN HER DREAMS, when a best-selling mystery novelist with major writer’s block leases a 14th century Scottish towerhouse for the summer, not only does she find fabulous fodder for her next book, but the spooky castle is filled with enchanted Scottish warriors — and the last thing the handsome laird can recall is being accused of murdering his new wife, to Laura Cifelli at NAL, by Jenny Bent at Trident Media Group (world).
Laura Drewry’s THE DEVIL’S DAUGHTER, in which the daughter of the Devil falls for the man whose soul she has been sent to claim, to Leah Hultenschmidt at Dorchester, in a two-book deal, by Holly Root at Waxman Literary Agency.
Joey Hill’s Vampire Queen’s Servant is coming out next month and it is amazing.
Joey W. Hill’s DAUGHTER OF ARIEL, the story of a solitary mermaid who rescues a fallen angel and must risk her life and heart to return him to the skies, to Wendy McCurdy at Berkley Heat, in a nice deal, by Deidre Knight of The Knight Agency (NA).
I can’t say that her first book interested me enough in following the adventure. I originally thought that I might pick up the sequel but there are so many other interesting stories out there. . .
Chris Marie Green’s next three book in the VAMPIRE BABYLON series, following an ex-stunt woman turned hunter to London, where she tracks down another underground vampire society that seems to have more to do with Lost Girls and Big Bad Wolves than reality again, to Ginjer Buchanan at Berkley, in a very nice deal, by Pamela Harty of The Knight Agency.
Jill Sorenson’s EXTRA SENSORY, to Stacy Boyd at Silhouette, in a nice deal, by Laurie McLean at Larsen/Pomada Literary Agents (World).
This sounds interesting only because I like the idea of the forensic artist.
Laura Griffin’s THREAD OF FEAR, in which a forensic artist, whose drawings help bring countless vicious criminals to justice, is now working with a small town detective on a serial murder she puts not only her heart in jeopardy, but soon realizes her life is at stake as well, to Abby Zidle at Pocket, in a two-book deal, by Kevan Lyon at Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency (World).
Kathleen Popa’s ALL THE SAINTS WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE, in which a woman returns from her husband’s funeral to find her house has been set ablaze by an arsonist whom police suspect is her adult son but she ignores the brouhaha and moves into a cinder-block shed to live a life of prayer and fasting, to Don Pape at David C. Cook, in a nice deal, by Janet Kobobel Grant at Books & Such Literary Agency.
Jane Kirkpatrick’s three historical novels based on fact about strong women who face and overcome impossible odds, to Dudley Delffs at WaterBrook Press, in a good deal, by Joyce Hart at Hartline Literary Agency (World English).
Charlaine Harris and Toni L. P. Kelner, eds.’s MOONLIGHT AND MISTLETOE, an anthology of all-original stories featuring a werewolf in a yule-tide setting, to Ginjer Buchanan at Ace, in a very nice deal, by Joshua Bilmes at JABberwocky Literary Agency (NA).
Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways.
She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

The first Sydney Croft book is pretty good.
