By Jane • Jun 13th, 2007 • Category: Publishing News • •There were big deals for Cindy Gerard and Gena Showalter. I’ve not yet read Cindy (am going to) and have read just one Showalter. She’s someone that Bam loves muchly and thus I should also like but the one book that I read just hasn’t engaged me but apparently I am the only one.

Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways.
She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

I say give Showalter another go too, Jane. Her first person work, IMHO, is better than her third person.
You know what Jane? I thought the same thing about Gena at first. I had some trouble with one of her earlier books and it put me off. But then I gave her another shot and tried Playing With Fire. Boy am I glad I did. She kicked serious butt in that book. Some great writing and a lot of fun to read! I think she’s gotten much better as she’s come along. I have high hopes for her new Dark Lords series, from which Darkest Pleasure is like the 2nd or 3rd I think. If she crunks out the type of stuff she has lately, I think they’ll be wonderful. ;)
So to sum up my huge, longwinded explanation, give her another try! :D
I love Gena’s stuff. Most recently, I’ve read Playing With Fire and The Nymph King. I haven’t read the Dark Lords book yet, but I’ll add it to my (always growing) TBR pile.
And good for Michelle! I’m looking forward to Quinn’s book in her vampire series.
I’ve actually read the first book in Gena’s Darkest series and it’s AWESOME!! Give it a go, Jane. I think you’ll enjoy it muchly :)
Cindy Gerard is sooooo great! Her Bodyguards series is to die for. My fave of the series Book #3- To The Brink… but the whole series is on my keeper shelf and has made me a die-hard Gerard fan.
What is the Darkest series because her site says “Imperia” “Atlantis” “Alien Huntress” (It was Awaken Me Darkly that I tried to read but couldn’t finish).
It starts with The Darkest Night and it releases in May next year.
Oh and I second Isabelle’s recc of Playing With Fire. That was fun!
I get arcs, but not for books due out in may 2008! I’ll try Playing with Fire but her website says that it is coming soon. Is her website *gasp* out of date?
Jane, I think the release dates were changed. The first Darkest book was supposed to be out in Sep. But now they’re coming out back to back (3 of them) next year.
I’ve read The Darkest Night as well and it totally rocked. My ARC says it’s supposed to come out in May. It’s really, really good.
