RITA Reader Ballot contest
By Jane • Jun 11th, 2007 • Category: Misc • •For those not familiar with Dear Author, we are running a reader contest in conjunction with the RITAs (reader defined as any person who reads romances regardless of occupation ;) ). The RITAs are the highest industry award that a romance writer can receive. The RITA winners are announced every summer in July at a convention awards banquet. This year, we created a contest. Any reader can fill out a ballot and submit their guesses for who will be announced the RITA winner in July. The reader's ballot closest to being right will win a basket full of RITA winning books. We’ve had some spectacularly generous publishers who have donated books, like Harlequin and Dorchester.

The ballot is very easy. It consists of 12 drop down boxes that provide the names of the author, book and publishing house. You need only provide your email address to be entered. The whole process shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes. We hope that if you haven't already filled out a ballot, you will do so.
We’ll give away a set of the above books to give away to a random balloter. You’ll want this because apparently Marjorie Liu is one kick ass writer but I didn’t realize it until last night. I just finished my first Liu, Soul Song . It was all shades of awesomeness and now I HAVE to read the previous 5.
Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways.
She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

Does the first person to comment get a prize?
Edited to add: before I posted there were the words ‘Be the first person to comment!’ at the end of the post, but it seems like that must be something that appears automatically and then vanishes when the first person has commented.
And why does a face appear at the side of the comments?
No, random balloter. :)
Oh well, it seemed worth a try. But on balance, I think I’d better not enter as (a) the postage to the UK would be very high and (b) I tend to avoid romantic suspense and paranormal romances so as not to give myself nightmares.
The RITA, arrrrrrg, ptoooey, ack, ack, ack! But I agree wholeheartedly about Marjorie Liu. I would love to have her books I haven’t read yet. Will sally forth and spend money.
Cool editing feature. Will nab it.
Shadow Touch is the best out of the bunch, IMO. Everything really connected with me when I read that one.
Geez Jane, you hadn’t read a Liu? Shame on you.
Here’s the deal, Nicole, by the time I started hearing buzz about her, she was at book 3 or 4, and then it was book 5 and I thought, oh no, I don’t have time to read 4 books to find out what was going on with this next book, but in any event, it worked out fine because you didn’t need to read the previous 5 to understand what was going on.
