Independents to Sell Ebooks

Last winter, the ABA signed an agreement with Ingram to allow affiliate bookstores to sell ebooks. This agreement has become a reality with Booksense.com launching its program that allows member stores to sell e-books. Ingram Digital Ventures will fulfill e-book orders in three formats: Palm OS, Adobe and Microsoft Reader.

Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways.

Ooo. Is that the coolest thing ever.
I think this is a wonderful idea. The best part about it is that now eBooks can actually begin to be counted on a much more effective level in the industry reports. Every time I read a statistic about eBook sales, I cringe, knowing that less than half of them are actually being counted. I know that in six years, no one has ever asked me about our eBook sales, and while they aren’t in the milllions, if 1000 smaller pubs who sell eBooks were accounted for then our 10,000 or so sales would certainly add up to something more substantial and give a much more accurate visual for people to make informed decisions about eBooks and their vailidity. Woohooo!!!
