Giving book reviewers a bad name

Dutch man Peter Oosterbos, also known as Fred, has been scamming hundreds of books posing as a book reviewer for a fake magazine called Furore Magazine. Oosterbos has been running this scam for over 15 years and while most Dutch publishers are on to him, Oosterbos has reached out to British publishers like Penguin USA and Canongate. The export manager was a bit suspicious of this and called a customer in Holland for verification.

He does the same for CD’s.

He faxes requests to musicians to get their record company to send review copies, after
telling them he’s like to do an in depth interview.
