Publishing Deals in Romance

By Jane • Apr 6th, 2007 • Category: Publishing News • •

Other than Cynthia Eden’s story about the psychologist to the paranormal, my interest in the following books are fairly low:

  • Michelle Willingham’s THE WARRIOR’S TOUCH and HER WILD IRISH ROGUE, the next two MacEgan brothers’ medieval historical romances, again to Joanne Carr at Harlequin Mills & Boon, by Carolyn Grayson at Ashley Grayson Literary Agency.
  • Kimberly Stuart’s CANNON FALLS, The story of a down-on-her-luck opera diva who takes a teaching position at a midwest college, to Andrea Christian at Cook Communications, in a nice deal, in a three-book deal, by Chip MacGregor at MacGregor Literary.
  • Cynthia Eden’s TOUCHING THE DARKNESS, a psychologist whose patients are all supernatural creatures — lovelorn succubi, vampires with blood phobias and the occasional shifter with commitment issues — is pulled into a brutal murder investigation as a profiler, to Kate Duffy and Megan Records at Kensington Brava, in a nice deal, by Laura Bradford at Bradford Literary Agency (World).
  • Rita Herron’s DARK LORDS series, bringing three estranged brothers, anti-heroes, who must battle their own inner evil side, together to form a paranormal crime unit and fight demonic crimes, to Michelle Bidelspach at Grand Central Publishing Forever, by Jenny Bent at Trident Media Group (world).
  • Andre Agassi’s memoir of his life on and off the tennis court, including accounts of how he has “used his success as an instrument for change in the world” in both “education reform and public service,” to Sonny Mehta at Knopf, with Jonathan Segal editing, in a major deal, for well over $5 million, at auction, by Michael Carlisle and Richard Pine at Inkwell Management (world). Galley Cat suggest this should be named Advantage Agassi which I think would be perfect.
  • Kelley St. John’s THRILLING AND ABLE, BED ON ARRIVAL, and LIVE AND YEARN, featuring ghosts and the family who helps them cross over to the other side, to Brenda Chin at Harlequin Blaze, by Caren Johnson Literary Agency.
  • Dianna Love Snell’s MIDNIGHT KISS GOODBYE, featured in the anthology Dead After Dark, to Monique Patterson at St. Martin’s, by Caren Johnson Literary Agency.
  • Caridad Piniero Scordato’s three more books in the Calling series, FURY CALLS, ARDOR CALLS, and VENGEANCE CALLS, to Stacy Boyd at Harlequin Nocturne, by Caren Johnson Literary Agency.
  • Caridad Pineiro Scordato’s Christmas Vampire Novella, to Stacy Boyd at Harlequin Nocturne, by Caren Johnson Literary Agency.
  • Prince of Magic author Linda Winstead Jones’s THE EMPEROR’S BRIDE, a new trilogy, to Wendy McCurdy at Berkley, by Richard Curtis of Richard Curtis Associates (NA).
  • Deborah Raleigh writing as Alexandra Ivy’s three more novels in her series of vampire romances, to John Scognamiglio at Kensington, by Evan Marshall at the Evan Marshall Agency (world). A girlfriend of mine said her first Ivy book was pretty good but I haven’t read it yet.

Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways. She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation!

  1. Never heard of Cynthia Eden but you’re right…that book sounds interesting.

  2. Also meant to add that I liked the first Ivy book too.
