I thought Tammi Hoag did a good job in Prior Bad Acts of balancing demands of fairness, the law, first appearancea and vigilanteism. It is also a Chinese puzzle box of a book with surprise inside of surprise (and a nice romance as well). But, warning, it is graphic at times although the reader is not made privy to the violent acts as they happen for the most part. I’m not terribly fond of books that are one sided that way.
