And I agree with Robin. Great idea to get two perspectives at one time!

Having loved her historicals, and being open minded to at least the first book when an author switches genres, sadly this one doesn't appeal to me at all. Even Jaynes good review turned me off it. Just sounded too silly. And now with Jane's, that reinforces that I won't be reading this one.

The dueling reviews are interesting and I think that they go to show how important diversity is within the genre. One woman's gold, etc. etc.

I'm still going to try this one.

And hey, I had hot dish earlier this week. And then had to explain to my ignorant colleague at work that no way on earth was it to be called "casserole". :-)

I must be the only reader of historical Romance who hasn't been able to make it through one of Brockway's historicals (including All Through the Night and As You Desire). That. coupled with these two reviews, probably means that I WILL try this one.

I tend to enjoy heroines who an author doesn't pretty up. I really enjoyed SEP's Ain't She Sweet, notwithstanding the fact that I hated Winnie with a passion and wished Phillips hadn't worked so hard to "redeem" Sugar Beth; I didn't need her soul to be characterized as "creamy white" to embrace her as a valuable person. OTOH, I think there's a fine line between a well-drawn bitch and an unlikable character, and obviously Brockway is close enough to that line to have you and Jayne fall on either side of it. Another draw for me, actually.

Great idea having these dueling reviews, IMO. I like seeing a book from two perspectives at the same time, because it's like a more three dimensional image forms in my mind, even though I haven't had the chance to form my own opinion yet. I hope you guys do a lot more of these.

le sigh

I might still give this a go at some point but prolly not. I still have a couple historicals in the tbr pile by her. I do hope she does another at some point. It makes my historical heart weep...

And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
