The Wars of the Roses by Alison WeirThe Wars of the Roses by Alison Weir. $ $1.99 AMZN | iBooks

From the Jacket Copy:

Lancaster and York. For much of the fifteenth century, these two families were locked in battle for control of the English throne. Kings were murdered and deposed. Armies marched on London. Old noble names were ruined while rising dynasties seized power and lands. The war between the royal houses of Lancaster and York, the most complex in English history, profoundly altered the course of the monarchy. Alison Weir, one of the foremost authorities on British history, brings brilliantly to life both the war itself and the larger-tha-life figures who fought it on the great stage of England. The Wars of the Roses is history at its very best—swift and compelling, rich in character, pageantry, and drama, and vivid in its re-creation of an astonishing period of history.

“[A] spellbinding chronicle . . . [Alison] Weir’s dark, glorious pageant restores the personal dimension to an oft-told tale without losing sight of a war that shattered feudalism, paved the way for capitalism, and weakened the monarchy.”—Publishers Weekly starred review

Forever, Interrupted: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins ReidForever, Interrupted: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. $ 1.99 AMZ | iBooks.

From the Jacket Copy:

“Have you ever heard of supernovas? They shine brighter than anything else in the sky and then fade out really quickly, a short burst of extraordinary energy. I like to think you and Ben were like that . . . in that short time, you had more passion than some people have in a lifetime.”

Elsie Porter is an average twentysomething and yet what happens to her is anything but ordinary. On a rainy New Year’s Day, she heads out to pick up a pizza for one. She isn’t expecting to see anyone else in the shop, much less the adorable and charming Ben Ross. Their chemistry is instant and electric. Ben cannot even wait twenty-four hours before asking to see her again. Within weeks, the two are head over heels in love. By May, they’ve eloped.

Only nine days later, Ben is out riding his bike when he is hit by a truck and killed on impact. Elsie hears the sirens outside her apartment, but by the time she gets downstairs, he has already been whisked off to the emergency room. At the hospital, she must face Susan, the mother-in-law she has never met—and who doesn’t even know Elsie exists.

I mean…you spend the whole book getting over Ben? Even the blurb makes me kind of sad.

Until November
November is looking forward to getting to know her father and the safety of a small town. After leaving the Big Apple and her bad memories for Tennessee, November starts working for her dad at his strip club doing the books. The one time she’s allowed there during club hours she runs into Asher Mayson. He’s perfect until he opens his mouth and makes assumptions. November wants nothing to do with Asher but too bad for November, fate has other plans.
Asher Mayson has never had a problem getting a woman, that is until November. Now all he can think about is making November his and keeping her safe.

Until Trevor
Trevor Mayson had his life planned out – make the family business successful and play the field for a few more years before eventually settling down. Then he sees her. Liz Hayes was beautiful, shy and everything that he could ever want…but she didn’t fit into his plans. After Trevor painfully rejects her, Liz finally starts to move on, but Trevor is finding it difficult to truly let her go. It seems the more he tries to stay away, the more intense his feelings for her become. Like a stretched rubber band, he can only take so much before snapping.
Liz Hayes is done waiting for Trevor and isn’t interested in getting her heart broken by him again, but Trevor is making it difficult for her to forget him when he shoves his way back into her life.
Can Trevor prove to her that he is worth falling in love with again, and is he ready to change his life plan to let her into his heart?

Until Lilly
When Cash Mayson was forced to choose between the love of his life and his unborn child, he knew exactly what he had to do. No matter how broken it left him.
When Lilly Donovan was forced to accept that the guy she loved wasn’t who she thought he was and became a single mother, she knew exactly what she had to do. Proving just how strong she was.
What happens when years later you find out that everything you thought you knew was a lie?
Can two people who once loved each other overcome the obstacles that are thrown at them and fall in love all over again?
Cash Mayson had forgotten how it felt to be loved Until Lilly came back into his life. And now that he remembers, he will do everything within his power to keep not only the woman that he loves, but also his children.
The power of love is a beautiful thing.

Until Nico
Sophie Grates has never had it easy, but she’s finding her way through life one step and one day at a time. That is, Until Nico comes in and flips her world upside-down.
He forces her to see you cannot live life from the outside looking in, and sometimes you have to step out onto the ledge so you can really enjoy the view.
Nico Mayson knew the moment he saw Sophie Grates that she was the one. His whole life, he has been judged by what’s on the outside, so finding a beautiful woman who sees the real him only makes his feelings that much stronger.
Nico knows the kind of man he is, and the things he is capable of, and he will do everything in his power to help Sophie fight her demons so they can have their happily ever after. Everything in life worth having is worth fighting for.

These aren’t to my taste but I know a lot of readers love them. One reader say it’s pure cheese and she can’t get enough of this series. Each book individually costs $3.99 (although one or all have been on sale for .99) so this is a pretty good deal.

Maybe Someday by Colleen HooverMaybe Someday by Colleen Hoover. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance.

At twenty-two years old, Sydney has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter’s cheating on her–and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by Ridge, her mysterious neighbor. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

Original music created for Maybe Someday by musician Griffin Peterson can be accessed through the website listed in the ebook and paperback.

I had a hard time with this one. I felt like Ridge was a cheater who “fell in love” with whatever girl made his muse (not a euphemism or maybe it is) wake up. First it was his long time girlfriend and then it was Sydney. Who knows who would be the next one he’d fall in love with when he couldn’t write music. The issue with the long time girlfriend was frustrating too. If she had been healthy, would he have waited so long to break up with her? Was it a pity love?

It’s obviously super well liked but for a few naysayers like me but while Hoover’s prose is eminently readable, the storyline didn’t work for me. I didn’t buy into the love relationship and I felt like the girl was his second choice. Or at least his choice of the moment.

Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris.Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris. $ 1.99 Amzn | iBooks

From the Jacket Copy:

With the sure touch of a master” (Crescent Blues), Charlaine Harris delivers “the sort of vampire thrills that make Laurell Hamilton’s Anita Blake novels so popular” (Locus). In Sookie Stackhouse—a Southern cocktail waitress with a supernatural gift—Harris has a created a heroine like few others, and a series that puts the bite back in vampire fiction. Now the hit series launches into hardcover for Sookie’s biggest twist-filled adventure yet.

When cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse sees a naked man on the side of the road, she doesn’t just drive on by. Turns out the poor thing hasn’t a clue who he is, but Sookie does. It’s Eric the vampire—but now he’s a kinder, gentler Eric. And a scared Eric, because whoever took his memory now wants his life.

Watch a QuickTime trailer for the HBO original series True Blood.

I liked this book but by the second entry I knew what the ending would be and I had to quit it. Harris has a type and if you’ve read any of her previous series, the male characters take on certain recognizable characteristics and you know who she ends up with.

It’s kind of ironic, though, when this book first came out there were tons of comparisons to Laurel K Hamilton (and deservedly so) yet Harris’ series became more popular.

Now Renna must pull off the biggest job of her career – saving the galaxy. And maybe even herself.

Recommended for 17+ due to mature themes and sexual content.

I included this book because we don’t have enough SFR but be warned that there are real editing issues. “But while I promised I’d read with a reader’s eye not a writer’s, I couldn’t help getting distracted by technical issues as I read. Now, I’m not talking bout a misplaced comma or calling the major “captain” once or using “sent” when it should be “scent,” or “discrete” instead of “distinct.” Those things happen here, but they happen all the time in books (especially ebooks). But there were too many instances where the wrong word was used, changing the meaning.”

Rocking cover though.
