Open Thread for Authors (Author Promo)

What’s this you say? I read quite a few blogs outside the romance blogosphere and many of the big ones have a daily open thread where the commenters drive the bus. The rules for Author Promo Night Open Thread are as follows:

  • The book has to be released in that month (i.e., anything released during the last week of September would be a October release)
  • You can post for yourself or you can have a friend post for you if the idea of posting about your book paralyzes you .
  • No self published authors unless you write romance. No, I am not a POD hater, I am just thinking about the manageability of the thread.
  • Think about the readership. I.e., does your non fiction book about psoriasis really fit?
  • This one is more of a guideline than a rule, but be smart about your comment because if it is just a link to your website and the title of your book, I doubt you are going to get any interest.
  • DA reserves the right to delete the post if it promotes objectionable content (i.e., no daddy/daughter incest recommends are going to be allowed. Sorry.)

That’s it. Post away.

“Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch” is slated for a Halloween release with Torquere Press. It’s that lesbian steampunk with zombies I’ve been threatening to write for a while.

Catherine and Amanda were neighbors and best friends when they were widowed. They and their seven children have been trying to make a go of the Indian Territory homesteads for the last five years. It takes a zombie attack for Catherine to finally admit how much she loves Amanda, even as she organizes the townsfolk to wipe out the menace to their lives.

John had died when Abagail was just a tyke, caught a fever clearing a swamp.

Better way to go than my Luke. My Luke had been smart, too damn smart for his own good. Read all the time he wasn't farming and kept trying to build the stuff he read about. Arky Meedy's Steam Cannon blew up in his face about five years ago.

Men and their new-fangled ideas. Difference engines to keep count of people and clockwork wings to make them fly through the skies. Burt Newley's principles to take them to the moon. Steam weapons and gadgets. And all sorts of stories of clockwork servants coming out of the cities since the War. I was glad we’d lit out for Indian Territory right after Luke came back. Those things weren’t nothing for people to be messing with.

As always, everything is at my website:

After being a huge erotic romance fan for years, I was thrilled to have a story chosen for the 2008 Cavemen anthology from Ellora’s Cave. “Jewels of the Nile III” was published at the end of September and is available in print or as an e-book.

The anthology has a good mixture of genres. “Adrift” by Elayne S. Venton is about a man and a woman on a spaceship, trying to figure out a way to escape a black hole while exploring their suppressed passion for each other.

In “Passion’s Song” by Jory Strong, Aria’s dismal life on a mining planet changes when she’s rescued from prostitution by two handsome men who are already bonded to each other.

Rowan West’s “Return to Xander” concerns an artist’s model, Mia, and a very hot stripper-artist, Xander, who need to get beyond the pain in their past to find love again.

“Sorcerer’s Song,” by Cindy Spencer Pape,
is about a modern-day sorcerer who finds love with an unusual woman: a siren who needs to spend half of every day in water. They challenge the gods themselves to find a way to be together.

In Lacey Thorn’s “White Valley,” Dakota bathes in the valley’s Bridal Pool, where the waters prepare a woman to mate with a werewolf. She’s discovered by two brothers who claim her as their own.

My own “Private Lessons” takes place in 1897. When lonely widow Vanessa reads a sex manual called “Professor Woodcock’s Guide to Success and Happiness in Marital Relations,” she finds such statements as, “Although it is regrettably true that men enjoy gazing at the naked female form, they must not subject their wives to this humiliating imposition.” Determined to correct the book’s misstatements, Vanessa invites the professor to tea and ends up tutoring him in how to pleasure a woman.

Oh, it is a romance, in spite of its setting, and it was released on September 25th!

Clippings is my first M/M fiction, a contemporary romance.

    The blurb:

Unfairly arrested and charged with the murder of a police officer, Daniel has been jailed indefinitely until trial. A Brazilian prison is a terrible place to lose his innocence. Daniel would have lost more than that -‘ perhaps even his life -‘ if not for Mephisto, his cellmate.

Clippings is the story of the challenges faced by a middle class young man in prison, and his relationship with a dark, mysterious man who seems eager to protect him, but who might have his own inscrutable plans…

VEILED PASSIONS is officially released today!

It’s a dark, deeply romantic story. Romantic Times gave it a Top Pick and the K.I.S.S. award, along with this review: “Strong emotions take center stage in a powerful love story that digs deeply into character motivation and hard-edged emotions. There are many lessons to be learned and difficult issues to face, but MacNish allows her memorable characters to deal with their problems and come out lovers and winners.”

    The back cover:

Three years ago, Kieran Mullen was a carefree, confident beauty. One fateful night, everything changed, and she became solitary and aloof, reluctant to leave her London home even when her brother, Rogan, insists she accompany him on holiday to Venice. There, amid the wild revelries of Carnivale, Kieran is attacked by a masked villan and rescued by a charismatic stranger her offers her the one thing that might free her from her haunting past: revenge…

Matteo de Gama is a study in contradiction — a gambler and a philosopher, a reckless libertine and a most unlikely savior. When he pulls Kieran from a canal’s watery depths and learns her secrets, he resolves to help her exact justice. But soon he has another mission in mind — to release the unmistakable fire buried beneath her icy beauty, and teach her the bliss that comes from trusting her own desires, and in their fierce and abiding love…

My website is VEILED PASSIONS should be on the shelves of your local bookseller, and is also available online. If you happen to pick up a copy, I hope you enjoy the story.

    Emissaries of Belthalas, Book 2

A night of brutality destroyed her innocence…can the love of two people heal her wounded spirit?

    “I've been thinking about Kaela…”

There they are-‘the words that lead Gil to suspect his wife Lianon is falling in love with Kaela, the beautiful, traumatized young woman they rescued from certain death six months ago. Gil has no idea how to compete with a woman for his wife's affections, and part of him ceases to care as Kaela begins to work her way under his skin.

Kaela's sweet innocence fills a chasm in Lianon's soul she hadn't even realized was there. As she gently helps Kaela rebuild her shattered confidence, Lianon begins to believe healing the young woman's wounded spirit could be the key to wholeness for all three of them. If Gil agrees to follow her lead and help Kaela discover her own feminine power.

But even as they all succumb to their growing desire, Gil and Lianon are drawn against their will back into the intrigues and vendettas of Belthalas' elite. With Lianon's life at stake, Gil must weave a dangerous path between one adversary's ambition and another's lust for vengeance.

Success will save Lianon…but could cost them Kaela.

    Do you believe in fate?

Kara Martinez has been trying to be “normal” ever since the accident that took her father’s life when she was eleven years old. She’s buried the caliente side of her Mexican heritage with her father and tried to be the girl her rigid mother wants her to be–compliant and dressed in pink, and certainly not acting out like her older brother Jason. Not even Danielle, her best friend at Valdez High, has seen the real Kara; only those who read her anonymous blog know the deepest secrets of the sign seer.

Because Kara has a gift–one that often feels like a curse. She sees signs, visions that are clues to a person’s fate, if she can put together the pieces of the puzzle in time. So far, she’s been able to solve the clues and avert disaster for those she’s been warned about–until she sees the flash of a gun on a fellow classmate, and the stakes are raised higher than ever before. Kara does her best to follow the signs, but it’s her heart that wanders into new territory when she falls for a mysterious guy from the wrong side of town, taking her closer to answers she may not be able to handle. Will her forbidden romance help her solve the deadly puzzle before it’s too late…or lead her even further into danger?

I have a Halloween tidbit called Boolicious coming October 17 from Changeling Press: It’s straight-up hetero smut, and I got a huge kick out of writing it.

Here’s the heroine at a party for swingers, where she’s approached by a man in a gladiator costume. Going to the party was ill-advised; she doesn’t stay long. The excerpt has been edited for length, and it has a sprinkling of naughty language.

“Maybe you need to lose that dress.” Fletch's gaze slid to her stomach. “There's a rip in it anyway.”

“I know,” Hannah said. “That's where the sword went in.”

She'd already lost him. He gave her a puzzled look. “What sword?”

“The one Orestes used to murder me. The red beads around the tear are supposed to simulate blood.”

“But . . . why did the dude murder you? Was it a dude?”

“Yes, Orestes was a dude. And he murdered me because I made his father a cuckold and then killed him.”

“You made his father a what?”

“I cheated on him. Cuckolded him. Then I stabbed him at the dinner table.”

    Fletch grimaced. “Yech. Rude.”

“He was a Trojan War hero, too.”

That really grabbed the gladiator. He looked appalled. “Man, you're one cold bitch. You asked for it, sister.”

“Maybe. But I thought it was pretty damned cold to be slain by my son.”

“It was your own kid that offed you?”

Gravely, Hannah nodded. “He killed my lover, too. Damned shame. Aegisthus was a great lay.”

Fletch shook his head. “I don't know what fairy tale that is, but it's some sick, twisted shit.”

“Of course it is.” Hannah sipped her wine. “It's Greek tragedy.”

She'd inadvertently hit on something the young man could relate to. “Greek? Well, hell, that explains it. I know a dude named Al Katsakis who's boinking his sister-in-law.”

Hannah wanted to laugh. Instead, she remained in character and gave a dismissive wave. “Small potatoes. But centuries have gone by since the good old days. The gene pool has probably been diluted.”

Although Fletcher the Brave, slayer of men and taster of women, certainly had no idea what the crazy hell she'd been talking about, he remained undaunted. “So . . . do you have a name?”

    “Clit M. Nestra.”

“I don't think that's Greek” — Fletch slid his hand into the carefully placed slit and caressed her skin — “but I like it.” His voice became suggestive, and his pale blue eyes focused on her breasts. “Want me to put my sword in you?”

Hannah considered this for a brief moment. He was young — twenty-two to twenty-four, she guessed — and built like a gymnast. But his touch hadn't moved her. In fact this whole party, she realized, had given her a craving for passion, not just pawing. And especially not pawing by tainted hands.

“Sorry, no.” Only a bit regretfully, Hannah grabbed the gladiator's wrist and banished his roving fingers from her body. “I haven't healed yet.”

It's summer on the Isle of Man an Andrew is looking for hot girls and good times. So when he meets the dreamy and seductive Margaid, he thinks he's hit the jackpot. There are only a couple of minor problems: Margaid lives in a cave under the sea, is invisible, and thinks that only Andrew's blood can save her from turning into a kelpie! But hey, whoever said love was perfect!?

Before Margaid could answer, the guy shook his head at Andrew. “It's okay. You can keep my shirt. Although I don't know how you’re holding it when your arm's about four inches away from it, but hey, I'm sure I simply had too much to drink. Keep it, that's fine.”

“What? No, I don't want your shirt. Margaid, well she thought I wanted it, but-‘”

“No, don't let him go.” Margaid shook her red head. “You do want his shirt. And you need his pants, too.”

Before Andrew knew what was happening, she shoved the shirt into his arms. Then she turned back to the quaking man and grabbed hold of his waist.

“Oh, no, Margaid, don't do it.” The moment Andrew yelled out, he knew she wasn't going to listen. He watched in utter horror as she unsnapped the poor man's jeans, yanked down his zipper, and slid his pants all the way to his ankles. Damn, I'm glad he's wearing underwear. Black boxers with writing all over them. What does that say? Andrew read aloud, “B is for big.”

As the celebration of Beltane nears, the sisters seem destined to be unlucky in love. But the Goddess moves in mysterious ways, and May Day may turn out to be magic for them after all.

“I had an early board meeting yesterday morning, and I'll have another one this morning. It's the end of our fiscal year.” Orlando said.

Zen raised her wine glass. “Happy New Year, then.”

Orlando smiled. “How about you? Got a boyfriend? Any kids?”

“No boyfriend. And the closest thing I've got to a kid is Gillian. I'm sure I'll get around to having kids one of these days. I've got time, I'm only twenty-three.”

“Please don't take this the wrong way, but you seem older,” he said. Zen frowned, so he explained. “I don't mean you look older. I mean you seem more mature. Wiser, maybe.”

“I don't know about that,” Zen replied. Orlando didn't say anything, so she kissed him. She breathed in the soft floral scent of his aftershave.

Orlando was very still at first. Zen wondered if she'd made a mistake, or if he didn't like the way she kissed. She looked into his eyes, looking for some clue. As she did, Orlando leaned in and caught her lower lip between his lips. He'd been a little shy, but now he wanted to show her what he knew. To Zen's great delight, he knew what to do with his tongue.

In the small hours of the morning, on opposite sides of town, Jake and Matty each seek a shoulder to cry on after a fierce argument. But when their long-suffering listeners have had enough, it’s time for the guys to realize where they’ve gone wrong.

“I miss him so bad,” he said, softly. “I just chatter on and on because I'm worried I don't understand what he's thinking; what he wants. I don't know what to do that's going to be right. I need to know that-‘and I thought he'd understand. But how can I go back, after I ran out on him like that, after what I said?”

The king was suddenly tired of this audience. He had other matters on his mind, notably what to eat for his own supper, and what the approaching dawn would bring in the way of dangerous adventure. “Seek him out,” he said, dismissively. “Send word. It is never too late.”

The young man had something cradled in his palm-‘a strange, rectangular object with a glowing panel where words could be entered by use of the buttons. The king had seen these in the hands of other, less friendly people, and he believed they were for communication. Something from the ancient world, yet reliable enough for their purpose. “Your life is too short to waste,” he said, sternly.

Devon has learned of a powerful substance that can give Rosalie the gift of sunlight. But will he be able to pay the high price that the powerful Vampire in control of this drug will ask?

Devon thought of Rosalie wrapped around his waist, her teeth buried deep in his throat, and he blushed.

Of course, Xavier would not bite him.

He felt a pinch on his wrist, and a coldness swept up his arm into his head. He didn’t even feel the blade that slit his vein.

“Don't move,” said Xavier. Devon looked down and wished he hadn't. A steel bowl caught blood as it drained from his arm. He swooned and fell back against the cushions.

“Easy,” said Xavier. “If you faint now, how will I know when you've had enough?

Event planner Tali Cates's psychic gifts have brought her more than enough trouble in the past. She wants those irksome gifts to leave her in peace so she can support her family and lead a normal life in the small of Love, Texas.

But when not one, but two beauty contestants in the pageant she's running turn up dead, Tali is again drawn into murder and mayhem. Toss in some witchcraft and kidnapping, and she has no choice but to protect her kids by hunting down the killer. Life gets even more complicated when her son accuses her new boyfriend of being a vampire, which is just plain ridiculous.

    Or is it?

Screams shrilled from the dressing room area, not the carnival. What else could go wrong with this damned county fair contest I was in charge of? I shivered, and it wasn't from the cooler evening air. What now? I ran toward the dressing room, reaching the door in time to be trampled by Theresa, who was shrieking and carrying her daughter, Charlice.

“Oh God, oh God, oh God. My baby, my poor baby.” She finally took a breath and sat down on the ground. “It's dead, it has to be. I don't know what it is.” Theresa was one of the pageant contestant mothers.

From the way she was reacting, you'd think her child was dead, not struggling against her mother's tight grip.

I picked myself up from the cement stage, ignoring my scraped knee. Charlice buried her head in her mother's neck.

I went into the empty dressing room Theresa had opened. She had been anxious her daughter wouldn't have enough mirror space to get ready for the talent competition.

Marcia Baker lay on the floor, or at least someone in Marcia's clothes. The body looked like a mummy, not Marcia. It was as if something had removed all moisture from her. All I could think of was poor Marcia, poor Kimmie-‘who was one of the Queen Contest competitors. She would be without a mother.

I couldn't catch my breath. My heart stuttered. I staggered out of the room, touching nothing. My cell phone rang. I fumbled it out of my jeans, swallowing several times before I could talk. It was Mumsie, my mother.

“What's going on, Tali? Chung Po is beside himself. He says he can't see anything but darkness.”

“Tell your stupid spirit guide to go into the light. Get off the phone and call JT. I have a dead body here in the dressing room.”

    “Another one?”

“Just go call.” I hung up and threw myself behind a hay bale to be sick. It was déjà vu all over again.

Straight-laced children’s author, Rachel Conklin, awakens on a deserted island wrapped in the arms of a sexy pirate. Convinced she’s in a dream conjured from the pages of her breakout novel, Rachel casts her inhibitions to the wind and rides the waves of passion.

Pediatrician Henri Bernier wasn’t quite sure what to do with the sexy mermaid he’d pulled from the sea. Then she started kissing him and sent his libido soaring. Now the good doctor is ready for anything.

Warm tingles started in her belly, pooling low in her abdomen, a sensation she'd long missed. His lips were strong, supple, working her own apart. She glided her tongue along the seam of his mouth, loving the salty taste and the rasp of his beard on her bruised face. Moisture filled her panties, making her alive and wanting more. She laced an arm around the broad shoulders leaning over her, curling her fingers in his long silky hair.

Her nipples puckered more with each stroke as he glided his hand along her spine, continuing lower over the curve of her ass to her thigh. Wet sand greeted her when he smoothly rolled them over. Her legs parted, welcoming her secret pirate. Nope, make that swashbuckler. More romantic.

Shivers raced through her and he held her closer. His body heat, a beautiful thing, shrouded them. Her breasts grew heavier, straining against her shirt, with his solid erection pressing into her. She wiggled closer, needing to feel him inside her.

Indistinguishable sounds filled her ears, forgotten lyrics from an old sweet love song. She wanted to remember, but not enough to give up her fantasy man and the erotic glow of mystery sex.

For years, Whisper has hunted his archenemy, the vampire, Santez de Aragon. Whisper intends to kill the vile murderer and put an end to his evil ways once and for all. Katherine Browning finds herself attracted to the tall, handsome Gypsy who wards off the unwelcome attentions of her brother's tutor.

But soon she discovers that Whisper is not what he appears to be…

Whisper tightened his grip on his sword. “I will never be like you.”

Santez circled their tight arena. “You are me. Do not deny you lust for blood the same way I do. You crave it. You take it wherever you can. You can't get enough of it.” His eyes, like embers, ignited when his gaze came to rest on the frightened face of the girl. “So much the sweeter when virginal, no?” His stare challenged Whisper. “Deny that you want to drink her blood. Deny that you want it so bad you can already taste it.” Whisper glanced at Katherine. The haunted gaze that caught at the edge of his vision sent a chill up his spine.

    “Deny it!”

“Whisper?” Katherine took a step backwards.

Santez laughed. “Tell her what you are, gypsy.”

“Enough, Santez! Your quarrel is with me.” He lunged forward swinging the sword, but Santez moved quicker. By the time the six-span blade had completed its arc, Whisper found Santez between himself and Katherine.

Nothing would have pleased Santez more than to have seized the girl and taken her right in front of Whisper, but the gypsy demanded all his concentration, and the girl slipped beyond his reach. He snarled, half crouching, ready to spring. “I should have made you wholly a vampire when I had the chance.”

Tainted, Book Four of my Channeling Morpheus series, is out today!

Michael, the intrepid vampire hunter in eyeliner and Wild Bill, the world-weary vamp, are starting to carve out a life together. Wild Bill harbors a secret hope that he can persuade Michael to stop hunting, as well as an emerging dread that stopping Michael is as likely as stopping the sun from rising.

    Here’s a snippet:

Heartless, soulless, generic and commercial. You gotta love these “big box” stores. I'd never set foot in one until I had a someone other than yours truly to look after. Never needed to. As long as I had enough smokes to keep me busy and a warm-blooded meal ticket nearby, I was happy enough with the clothes on my back.

The homicidal eye-candy I'd hooked up with had more needs than I did. Like food. Pens and notebooks. Somewhere to eat and sleep. And do the nasty.

So I bought us a van.

That's how it all starts, I guess. You let something stick, and the next thing you know, you start accessorizing it.

I pulled a card of earrings off a revolving rack full of shiny, shiny trinkets. Not bad. “I'm taking this,” I told the clerk behind the counter, who smiled and gave me a finger wave. I tucked the earrings into my pocket.

Handbags. Slippers. Pantyhose. Sunglasses. I pulled a pair of cheap plastic shades off the display and tried them on. Thankfully the notion about vamps not casting reflections is just a weird idea someone dreamt up after chugging too much absinthe. How else would I be able to pick out a decent pair of shades if I couldn't make sure they looked good on me?

But of course they did. I snapped the price tag off and put them on. Better. The hyper-bright fluorescent lighting had really been doing a number on my impressionable retinas.

Hats. Wallets. Scarves. I stopped and stared. Some of 'em were grandma-scarves, sure. But some of 'em were slinky and long. I took a black one, pulled off the tag, looped it around my neck. Nice.

I sniffed the air. Lots of humans teeming through the store, even at quarter to ten. Despite the smorgasbord of scents, I zeroed in easily enough on the one I wanted.

He stood at a glass countertop shaped just like the jewelry island, except this one was full of cameras and phones, and other little gadgets I'd never heard of, and had no desire to know what they did.

I unwound the scarf from my neck and wrapped it around his. Not only would he feel less self-conscious about the series of thin, neat cuts I'd left on him with my trusty flip-around knife, but he'd give Marc Bolan a run for his money in the jerk-off fantasy department. I'd refrain from telling him that, since given his age, I couldn't hope for anything more than a blank stare in return.

He leaned into me, pressed his side against my side. “Look.” He pointed at a plastic rectangle.

    “It's a computer.”

“It is?” It was the size of the cigar box I kept my paintbrushes in, back in the Dark Ages.

“If I had one of those, I wouldn't need to spend so much time at the library. We could park outside a coffee shop and I could hop online.”

I was probably giving him the same look he would've given me if I'd told him he'd pass for a member of T-Rex. “So get it.”

He went real quiet. “It's almost thee hundred dollars. Plus tax.”

I squatted and pressed my nose against the glass. I didn't understand money at all. Smokes had gone from a buck twenty-five a pack to six, while computers had dropped from five grand to a lousy three hundred — plus tax. Good thing I never had to pay for anything. I'd get taken for a ride, for sure.

There was a kid in a blue polyester vest behind the counter who'd been doing his best to look close and available, but also courteous and unobtrusive. He wasn't too successful. Mostly he looked awkward. “Gimme one of those,” I told him. “The pink one.” Because if a computer company was ridiculous enough to make a paperback-sized laptop in pink, how could I not get that one? “Ring it up however you need to. We're taking it.”

He pressed some keys, scanned the box, and gave it to me. I handed it to Michael. I could tell he wanted to whisper some token protests at me, but he also wanted his new toy badly enough that he knew better than to complain about it.

When he finally did find his voice, he said, “We should probably get a car charger.”

I am thrilled to announce the release of Emerald City! This erotic paranormal romance is set in Egypt, the emerald capital of the ancient world. Claudia, an archeologist, must choose between the two men who love and lust for her – one living, and the other dead.

Happy Halloween and Welcome to Emerald City!

    Melody Knight

It was midday on the second day when it happened. According to her map, and her sources, there was a small town a mile or so off-road, which the mine workers had once inhabited. No one had done much more than note its existence, and Claudia felt the thrill of discovery. Who knew what a place like that might hold? Other Mons Smaragdus towns had yielded pottery and metals, low grade gemstones, and a variety of other, more homely items. There were sure to be buildings, if the place had been impressive enough to be noted on the map. Gooseflesh danced down her back. The wadi region was laden with small piles of rubble — the remnants of ancient huts. This township held the promise of oh, so much more.

She readjusted her hat, conscious of her thirst. It seemed she was always conscious of her thirst in this wretched heat! She sucked on her canteen then mustered ahead. No track, so she’d just have to make her way. A couple of times she glanced back at the truck, even climbing one of the little hills to make sure it was still within sight. It was only on the last check that she saw it had disappeared, but that was what she expected. This was hilly country, after all, and the town should be just ahead.

Only, it wasn’t, nor could she find the truck. She tried tracing her own footsteps, but this area was rock, rather than sand, and it was no use. Her compass was erratic, due to magnetic deposits, leading her nowhere. Two hours later, dragging her body through the heat, Claudia had to admit it — I’m lost. Lost in the damned desert. Her water bottle was dry, but she refused to panic. If I don’t check in, they’ll come looking.

The sun had never been so hot, and Claudia knew she should have been resting midday away instead of hiking. But it was too late — too late for anything. She rooted around in one of those piles of rocky debris, picking up rocks that burned her hands to pile them into a wall that might offer her partial shade — if it didn’t fall on her head first. She didn’t possess the building secrets of the ancient Romans or the Bedouin. And her blistered hands were shaking so badly she didn’t know how she’d survive the next few hours.

It was then an icy chill came on her, colder than death.

She didn’t speak — she didn’t have to. He was there…for her.

I completely forgot to post here about my new Halloween short story THE WICCAN KITTEN (released October 2008 from The Wild Rose Press). I hope it’s not too late.

Before her landlord’s exorcism banishes the innocent apparition haunting her Salem apartment, Freyja Amador must cast a spell to save her ghost cat. Unfortunately, her spell’s success can only be guaranteed through sex magick on Halloween night-‘two days away. She needs a man. And she believes she has just met the perfect one.

Shane Logan, however, has troubles of his own. Operating under a centuries-old faerie curse, Shane must find a woman who can fall in love with him within three days–and having sex is not an option or he will turn to dust.

Will they both get what they need before time runs out on Halloween?

“Oh what a sensuous and stunning story! Susanne Saville puts a lot of story into this short but delectable tale. Shane's history is heart wrenching and the dilemma he finds himself in seems hopeless. Who couldn't help but fall in love with Shane right along with Freyja? Shane is simply the ideal romantic hero and Susanne Saville injects exactly the right heat level to make THE WICCAN KITTEN appealing to any paranormal romance fan!” — 5 Klovers — “Highly Recommended!” — Debbie, ck2s Kwips and Kritiques

“The Wiccan Kitten is a very well done short story! Sometimes an author can't quite convince me that a relationship can develop that fast in a short story but this one works great!… The story is humorous, charming, and definitely twisted. I loved it!”- 5 Angels! – Stephanie B., Fallen Angel Reviews

“As you read, you can feel the insecurities of Freyja coming through her dialogue and actions and you could only rally for her that she finds someone that she could fall in love and have sex with on Halloween night – which by the way is only two days away. When Shane Logan enters the picture, you can feel the sparks flying around these two. … This is definitely a fun Halloween read that will tickle your fancy any time of year. I would definitely recommend it to other readers and I look forward to reading more from this author.” – Diana Coyle, Night Owl Romance Reviews

    Chapter One

    Salem, Massachusetts
    Thursday, October 29th

“Hey, Kitten, I'm home.” Freyja Amador stood at the threshold of her unlit apartment, her fingers resting upon the cold brass doorknob, and waited. Light from the communal hallway made a weak attempt to penetrate the blackness of her rooms and failed. Which was exactly how she wanted it.

He only replied in the dark.

She waited a moment longer, heart thumping in the silence of her held breath. It was so quiet. Not even the tick of a clock.

A waft of air, chilly as a New England winter, licked across her hand. The skin on her arms and the back of her neck prickled with goose bumps. Any moment she would receive her answer.

An eerie meow wafted out of the darkness.

Reaching inside for the light switch, Freyja snapped on the old-fashioned hanging lamp with its onion-shaped glass globe, to reveal her empty living room. Well, it wasn't empty of furniture. Nor of books. She had plenty of books. And there were also plenty of dust bunnies, truth be told. Unlike television's Samantha Stevens, around whose statue tourists clustered in downtown Salem, real witches couldn't wriggle out of housework with a wiggle of their nose. But there was one thing totally absent from her apartment-‘a cat.

Or rather, no living cat resided here.

The ancient floorboards beneath her worn carpet creaked as she left the door and crossed to the center of the living room. “Meow to you, too, Baby Cat,” she announced to the area at large.

The ghost probably wasn't a kitten. He could shift chairs when he wanted to. She had seen her kitchen chair squeak and stutter into a reel on the linoleum like a little, invisible bull was pushing against one of its legs. So he was probably an eighteen-pound, Maine Coon tomcat. Nevertheless she thought of him as her kitten.

“I heard that,” a cultured male voice chided from behind her.
