Open Thread for Authors (Author Promo) for February 2011
Welcome to the February Promotional Thread for Authors. What's this you say? I read quite a few blogs outside the romance blogosphere and many of the big ones have a daily open thread where the commenters drive the bus.
The rules for Author Promo Night Open Thread are as follows:
The book has to be released in that month (i.e., anything released during the last week of January would be a February release)
You can post for yourself or you can have a friend post for you if the idea of posting about your book paralyzes you .
No self published authors unless you write romance. No, I am not a POD hater, I am just thinking about the manageability of the thread.
Think about the readership. I.e., does your non fiction book about psoriasis really fit?
This one is more of a guideline than a rule, but be smart about your comment because if it is just a link to your website and the title of your book, I doubt you are going to get any interest.
DA reserves the right to delete the post if it promotes objectionable content (i.e., no daddy/daughter incest recommends are going to be allowed. Sorry.)

Thanks DA for the chance to hock my box. I have a Superromance out in February, The Last Goodbye. It’s set in small town Australia and follows the story of Ally, a big-hearted advice columnist with gypsy tendencies, and Tyler, a furniture designer who is grappling with his estranged father’s impending death. @Sarah Morgan I read this book and enjoyed it. I wasn’t prepared to like it because a) how many Balfour girls ARE there and b) it was about a flighty heiress but I liked how the flightiness was addressed and how she was a great foil for the duty bound hero.

It’s probably a good thing that famed Victorian poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning didn’t live to see entire romances conducted via email and tweets! Otherwise we would not have The Love Letters of Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning, all 573 of them, collected nicely in print and now available as a $5.99 ebook. What started as a fan letter – from him to her, from one published author to another – blossomed into a forbidden marriage and a love celebrated in rhymes many of us read in English Lit class years ago.
They’re both dead so I’m posting for them. As the editor says “Read them in a high-backed chair with a cup of tea and a cat on your lap” or whenever you need a romantic turn of phrase.
