July Open Thread for Authors
It’s Author Promo Time. Apparently the July releases are escaping into the bookstore as we speak and thus it is time for authors to tell us what books to buy and why
The rules for Author Promo Night Open Thread are as follows:
- The book has to be released in that month (i.e., anything released during the last week of June would be a July release)
- You can post for yourself or you can have a friend post for you if the idea of posting about your book paralyzes you .
- No self published authors unless you write romance. No, I am not a POD hater, I am just thinking about the manageability of the thread.
- Think about the readership. I.e., does your non fiction book about psoriasis really fit?
- This one is more of a guideline than a rule, but be smart about your comment because if it is just a link to your website and the title of your book, I doubt you are going to get any interest.
- WAIT before reposting. These comments get stuck in the spam filter. Give us some time to fish it out.
- DA reserves the right to delete the post if it promotes objectionable content (i.e., no daddy/daughter incest recommends are going to be allowed. )

I have a July book releasing on June 30th (well, Amazon & B&N are already shipping, lol) from Dorchester called A STROKE OF MAGIC. It is the second in the series, but can be read without reading the first, as the books have different heroines. Here’s the cover copy:

I’ve got several things coming out in July, so thanks for the opportunity to dish!
First up is the second in my Hunter Kiss series, DARKNESS CALLS (to be released on June 30th) — about a woman covered in living tattoos that protect her body during the day — making her invulnerable, virtually immortal — and that peel off her skin at night to form her own small, incredibly lethal, demonic army. The plot is a bit complex, but there are alternate worlds involved, time travel, genetic manipulation, crazy psychic barmaids, secret societies, and many references to Bon Jovi.
If you’re interested, there’s a web-exclusive letter from the hero, Grant, to the unborn daughter he hopes to one day have with the heroine. It’s being released in four parts, and the third has just been released at SBTB. Leave a comment for a chance to win an iTunes gift certificate!
Next is the anthology, HUNTRESS (also to be released on June 30th), with authors Christine Warren, Caitlin Kittredge, Jenna Maclaine, and me. Finally, issue #76 of DARK WOLVERINE, with Marvel Comics, will be out in July (issue #75 comes out tomorrow). Co-written with Daniel Way, this first arc focuses on Wolverine’s psychotic (but elegantly cool) son, Daken, who is now part of the Avengers. The Fantastic Four also make an appearance.

I’m going to pimp for some authors, even though I’m not one.
Jill Shalvis also has the second of her Wilder brothers trilogy, Instant Gratification, coming out June 30. It’s published by Brava and I know a number of readers who can’t wait to get their hands on it.
I am personally thrilled that July sees the next of Victoria Dahl’s contemporary romances, Start Me Up. Save the contemporary!
Lastly, I would be remiss if I failed to mention the book my daughter bought me (on pre-order) for my birthday, Julia Quinn’s What Happens In London.
Since I’m out of the country on vacation most of July, I’ll be rushing around getting all of these to take with me!

Sorry I’m late, for some reason I was expecting this post in July. Anyway, my next book, Pussycat Death Squad will be released from Loose-Id on July 14th. I’m very excited about this book for a lot of reasons, it features a heroine who is Muslimah and falls for an American Marine. The story was inspired by an article I read about Muammar Qadaffi of Libya and his all-female bodyguard contingent. Please check it out and let me know what you think of it.
