Dear Author Woes

sad-faceSo yesterday I tried to do a couple of things to speed up the site but instead brought the entire node down which is apparently very very bad.  But, I think things are resolved now and I appreciate your patience with me.

I hope this will decrease the time it takes to load the site and generally make the site experience more enjoyable.  I did eliminate the comment preview but I figured that since you are able to edit your comment, it was an even trade off.

Thanks again for being patient. Go forth and comment.  I’ll be closing the Nalini Singh giveaway at 8 PM CST on Saturday and announcing the winners on Sunday.

I’ve turned on comment pagination due to the heavy traffic on the Singh giveaway page. This will be turned off after the giveaway.  Essentially it breaks up the comments in batches of 50 so click on “Older Comments” to read the older comments.

    Yay, the site is back.

Will we get the preview post button back?

@library addict: No, probably not. You’ll get the edit button though and that is better than preview, right?

The site loads much, much faster for me now. :)

Yay! I’m so glad you’re back up! I was spazzing out on GR, thinking that DA had kicked the bucket.

I think it’s a lot faster now. It usually toke forever to load everytime I stalked visited DA.

    @Jane: Yes, edit is better.

I don’t see a faster loading time, but the new site version loaded fast for me right from the start ^^. And I agree that keeping the edit is more important than the preview comment function.

I miss the numbers of the comments – only people without gravatar get numbers now…

In short threads that’s no problem but in long discussion threads it is problematic.

@Estara: The numbered comments have been a source of frustration for me as well. I continue to look for a solution.

I thought something was wrong with my computer at first because I had problems with a couple of other sites as well. Yes the site loaded a lot faster today.

Are you going to announce the winners of the Ace/Roc giveaway? Sorry if I’ve missed it – I had a quick look but didn’t see anything.

Add this to your ‘Notes to Self’ collection: Don’t fiddle with the site before lunch. :D

I thought it was me and my updated iOS. DA locked up Safari every time I visited (and loaded slower than molasses). Works like a charm now.

@LisaCharlotte – Totally worth the trouble then.

Well, speaking of the edit feature, there’s a comment I’m trying to edit and I’m told that I don’t have permission. Anyone else having this problem?

Just testing the editing feature. Pay me no mind.

@Jane: I think the form broke…? (On the winner page)

Are the gravatars replacing comment numbers or just sitting on top of them? I ask b/c the periods from the comment numbers are still there.

It looks like the editing feature is working, yes?

@Jane: Yes. It works fine for me.
