Dear Author + Smart Bitches + Books + News = Newsletter
Last year, Sarah Wendell, leader of the Bitchery at Smart Bitches and I formed The TBR, where we aim to build your To-Be-Read list one good book at a time. The TBR administers the Save the Contemporary campaign, an iPhone app, as well as the DABWABA (coming soon omg) our tournament with an improbable name, better known as the March Madness Tournament of Romance Novels. Now, we’re joining to write a newsletter that will contain book news, mini reviews, alerts about upcoming contests (such as that fabulous DABWAHA, which we’re putting together now), and information that would be of interest to you as a romance reader.

Please note that we consider it a privilege to be in your inbox, and will not abuse your subscription. We aim to publish our newsletter twice a month, and we welcome suggestions and ideas for content. In other words, this is our first time at the rodeo and we are bound to screw up. Please tell us how to suck less and be more useful. I suspect that the newsletter will evolve overtime as we get the hang of what to include, what not to include, and so forth. Moreover, unsubscribing will be easy, though we hope you enjoy our newsletter enough that you won’t do so!
Our aim is to reach as many romance readers as possible, so please spread the word, and help us build better TBR piles around the world.

@Evangeline Holland: Probably not. We are saving our money up to get a web app created that will be cross platform compatible. App creation is really, unfortunately, expensive.

A cross-platform web app would be fantastic. I wouldn’t touch an Apple product with a 10 foot pole, but I own an Android based tablet and a Blackberry Torch :D

I had the TBR app on my ipod touch. I thought the content was great, but I deleted it because it crashed so often. To be fair, I only have 8GB of memory and I keep so much audio content on the ipod touch that there’s very little memory free at any given time. Meanwhile, I’m saving my pennies for an Android tablet when the new ones are released in the spring and summer.

@Hannah Thanks for letting me know that Hannah. It may have been a mistake to invest in an app instead of a webapp initially. I think the wisdom is in a cross platform (and hopefully far less buggy) web app. With HTML5, apparently, there are some neat things that can be done to mimic the app experience so hopefully, we can capitalize on that but I expect a web app won’t appear until next year.

@Jane: I have both on my iThing, and I use the webapp all the time, the iThing app less often. The only thing I don’t like about the webapp is that it’s hard to go back a screen (or at least I don’t know how to do it). But otherwise, it’s quick and responsive, and even scrolling through long comment threads is pretty good. And I like the Table of Contents.

Jane – The form does not appear on IE8 (the page actually ends before the form) unless in compatiblity view and then still loads with errors.

I do like the iThing App. It hits the spot when what I’m reading has suddenly taken a turn for the worse. There’s a webapp? Didn’t know that.

@Jinni No, there is no webapp yet. DA has a mobile site, though.

@Jane: I called it a web-app because that’s what it is called when you enable it, and because it is a separate app button on my iThing app screen. When I go to it, it has a slightly different layout. But I guess that’s just a direct link to the mobile site? I’ve seen other webpages offer me the same kind of setup.
Whatever it is, I like it.

Where is your TBR app in the app store or itunes. I’ve searched under TBR with no resuls. Btw,The link doesn’t work here.
How do i turn off your popups from your website asking to add your website to my homescreen? I have popups disabled but you keep popping. When I browse your site, the popup is persistent with each link pressed making your site hard to use. Slow and repetitive.
I don’t want the mobile site and my settings are being blocked.
Help please. I sent you an email yesterday about the problems.
A combined app such as yours with a retailer would be good. Amazon, Barnes. Books On Board, ARe, Carina.

Thank you for sending the itunes link for your app. The popup is gone, but still cant switch to normal view through your link or browser settings. I miss seeing the book covers. The images are lost. The pinch and zoom is also disabled.
The TBR app is in the app store now. Thanks.
