Considering how miserable The Time Traveler’s Wife made me, I would love to know how this book meets the romance reader expectations of a HEA

Usually mainstream novels try to stay as far away from the genre label as they can get. The publicist’s encouraging romance readers to try this is delightful. I’d love to read a copy of this book.

I love a great book and a contest combined….I liked The Time Traveler’s Wife, but it did get a bit confusing at times. And I did not consider it a romance.
A few months ago, Lydia H, a Putnam publicist/marketing individual, emailed me about a book called “Overseas”. Putnam is a hardcover imprint for Penguin and I confess that I was a little apprehensive about a mainstream book being billed as romantic. Romance can mean many things to non romance readers. Plus there was time travel and while I’ve read a few time travel and enjoyed them, I’ve also read many time travels that dealt with the concept poorly and left me despondent (Hello, Knight in Shining Armor). But Miss Lydia was persistent and I promised myself that I would only read the first chapter. As I said in my review, by the end of the first chapter, I was hooked.
I’ve been encouraging others to read this book and Elyssa Papa arranged for us to have a Twitter chat for the book on May 31. All the chatter and excitement prompted Lydia H to email me and offer up 5 books to giveaway. Dear Author will sponsor 3 digital books as well for a total of 8.
In summary, we are going to giveaway 8 copies to US/Canada residents. To enter, just drop a comment below. (The reason that this is a US/Canada giveaway only is because the book is only available in digital to those regions so I wouldn’t be able to buy it and gift it to someone outside of US/Canada). You can also enter a giveaway at Goodreads.

Whee! I really, really want to read this book, but it’s a bit more expensive than I can afford right now. I usually hate the time travel ones, as well. Especially the modern-woman-goes-to-medieval-England-and-doesn’t-comment-on-the-smells” one.
May 12, 2012 @ 11:14:01
Sounds like a lovely book! Time travel usually works for me. I blame Star Trek. The episode where Kirk, Spock and Bones travel back in time is one of my all time favorites.
May 12, 2012 @ 11:16:57
Time travel done right? Color me sceptical, but I wouldn’t mind giving another of these a shot if its already been vetted.
May 12, 2012 @ 11:18:36
@Adi: Dang it! “Skeptical”. Sigh.

I’ve wanted to read this ever since I first heard about it, count me in!
May 12, 2012 @ 12:28:54
I loved the The Time Travelers Wife! My book club was raucous while discussing TTTW, the room was contentiously divided. We decided to read
Overseas this summer after I had read about it on another blog. Looking forward to it with glee!

May 12, 2012 @ 12:50:32
I was thinking about buying this based on the DA review even though I don’t usually like time travels. I love historicals though and it just sounded too intriguing to pass up. Would love to win it!

I am sadly between seasons of Downton Abbey and have recently re-read all of my Peter Wimsey books. Overseas would hit the spot, I think.

This sounds like an interesting time travel romance. Thanks for the giveaway!
May 12, 2012 @ 19:47:20
Sounds like a great TT book. I, too, had the same reaction as you to Knight in Shining Armor, and would like the chance to see if TT can be better executed. With its current price tag, it is a little more than I am willing to spend on an unknown author (and not carried by my library) so would love the opportunity to win a copy. Thanks for the giveaway!
May 12, 2012 @ 20:00:29
Oh, please enter me too! I’ve been looking for something to get me out of this reading funk!
May 12, 2012 @ 20:42:14
Time travel can either be really good or not – thanks for the giveaway.
May 12, 2012 @ 20:49:13
I love time travels, so this would be a great read for me. The review intrigued me, but unfortunately, most of my book budget is gone for this month.
Thanks for the give away Putnam and Dear Author. If I win, I would prefer an e-copy.
May 12, 2012 @ 20:51:25
I’d love to have a chance to read Overseas! If you were hooked right away I know I will be too. :-)

May 12, 2012 @ 21:33:38
This is very generous of Lydia H. and you, Jane. I was interested in reading this, but balked at the ebook price. Please throw my name in the hat for an ebook copy.
May 12, 2012 @ 21:44:08
