Halloween candy is the best part of autumn – I buy stuff early while there’s choice, tend to make a big dent in it so that it has to replenished to have anything to hand out to kids. Oh, and russet apples. They’re the best but don’t store well, so they’re an autumn-only treat.

    Thank you for the giveaway!!

We went apple picking with friends today, and that’s always a nice trip. Also fall is cooking season for me. I love filling my freezer with soups and cookie dough and all kinds of meals. That way, when the winter blahs hit, I can just pop some soup I’m the microwave, dive back under my blanket, and read on without worrying about getting to the store in the snow.

I’m all about the pumpkin lattes from Starbucks and this is the only time of year that I “allow” myself to eat candy. I love when the air gets crisp and I can bring out the fuzzy blankets and settle in with my dog in my lap, a good book and a warm drink :)

Baking, definitely baking, my house isn’t air conditioned and summer is just too hot to run the oven any more often than absolutely necessary. So cool weather brings back cookies and cakes and fresh bread and all the good stuff. Getting to curl up with a book and some hot tea and a couple cookies is an really nice way to spend an evening.

Having lived in the same house for thirty years, watching the two huge maple trees in my yard change color has become my favorite thing about fall AND about my home. They turn an unusually dark orange – gorgeous! – plus they hold their leaves longer than any other trees in the neighborhood. As long as there are still leaves on those branches, I can deny the approach of winter.

Yay fall. I love being able to bake again. NYC summers are disgusting, even when temps aren’t too high and the thought of turning on my oven makes me want to cry. But once the cooler weather settles in, oh yes. It’s cookie time. Also, pie and cake time.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

Not necessarily my favorite thing about Fall, but since you mentioned Halloween candy I’ll confess that I love stocking up on the stuff at steep discount in the days after the holiday. That may be tied with how much I love handing it out on Halloween and seeing all the costumed kids. :)

I recently found your blog and already in love with it. Favorite fall activity is curling on the sofa with a cup of hot coco and a warm blanket. It doesn’t get very cold in Las Vegas but it’s chilly. And of course reading some romance novels!! I’m not carving pumpkins this year but hopefully next year. Definitely eating candy before Halloween that’s if my mom doesn’t finish them before me ;)
