JOINT REVIEW: Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh (and Giveaway)

Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh

UPDATE: We’ve decouple the review from the giveaway because this is a book so many want to talk about. The review will be reposted on Monday in a new and separate post.

The winners have all been emailed.

1) Andy Swanson
2) Cath
3) Adrianne Robinson
4) Jenny
5) Sera
6) Nicola
7) sequoia
8) Erika

NOTE FROM JANE: We have 8 copies of the hardcover debut from a Dear Author favorite, Nalini Singh. These 8 copies we will give away on Sunday to a random commenter to this post. This book engendered such a strong response that Janine and Shuzluva decided to do a joint review. There may be some spoilers in this review and if you don’t want to be spoiled, just skip to the comments section and leave a comment as to why you want to read Kiss of Snow. I’ll tell you my reason. Because Singh delivered everything she promised when Hawke and Sienna were first introduced in the first book in this series, Slave to Sensation. I’ve told anyone who asked that yes, this book is worth the hardcover price.

I love the series. It sounds like the book has everything that readers wanted and expected with Hawke and Sienna. I’m also glad that there are a couple of hiccups along the way bc a perfect book would be boring. Thx for the review and the contest! :)

I was introduced to Nalini Singh’s psy-changeling series last year and I read the books nonstop until I caught up. I absolutely love this series. Getting a copy of the book right away instead of waiting for the mass paperback to be published would be so wonderful. (I’m a poor student on a budget.) Thank you!

Oh my, such a wonderful review from you two, Janine and Shuzluva!
I can’t wait to read this one, since Nalini is one of my favorite author. And the way both of you describe this book, I love reading it. It satisfied my need to read it, even just a little :)
Hawke always make me intrigued to him, and I love the way he tease Sascha and make Lucas annoyed. I know that he will paired with Sienna, just a little bit surprised with their age difference, but after read your review, seems Nalini can handle that.
To much that I wan to say here, like Sascha and Lucas’s baby (ah, finally),about the development in Psy-Changeling world, the Ghost and where Nalini will take us in this series.
Thanks for the giveaway too ^_^

You two have absolutely SOLD me on this book! I have never read any of Ms. Singh’s books, but I am not at all averse to reading a series out of order. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I DID read one in order. As an avid watcher of 5 or 6 different soap operas while growing up, starting in the middle of a storyline and keeping up multiple lines is old hat to me by now.

Skipping down to the comments (I don’t want any spoilers, with how much I’ve been anticipating this book)! I cannot WAIT for this book to be released. I’ll likely buy a copy as soon as it comes out, hardcover price or not, because Singh is one of my few auto-buy authors, but that doesn’t mean I’ll say no to a free copy. ;)

ETA: I’d also like to urge those who want this to be their first Singh book to reconsider! If you win, just hold onto it until you read the previous books. Trust me, one of the best parts for those of us who’ve been waiting for KOS is the build-up throughout the other books.

I want to read this book because Singh has never disappointed me with one of her books and the teasing we’ve gotten about Hawke and Sienna has been awesome. I’ve been torn about reading this book, because huge age differences, and preternaturally mature characters are one of my biggest pet peeves. My friend bought Slave to Sensation for my birthday a couple of years ago and I absolutely fell in love with the series. I have bee waiting on pins and needles for Hawke’s book and am really excited to see the relationship develop with Sienna. I cannot wait for this book!!

  71. Las
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 14:00:57

I’ll actually be reading this book for everything except the Hawke/Sienna relationship. I’ve been kind of dreading them since StS, even though I like both characters. First, I really dislike such blatant foreshadowing. Second, I’m going to need to see a LOT of writing gymnastics for me to get into what’s essentially a guardian/ward relationship. The age difference in itself doesn’t bother me, but the fact that the feelings between them started when she was a teen and he was an adult with a huge amount of power over her…no author has managed to make that work for me.

So why am I looking forward to reading this KoS? I’m addicted the Psy/Changeling plot, for one. I NEED to know that’s going to happen with the split Psy Council and the war with the Changelings, and I want to see more of the characters I’ve gotten to know and love. And also, Nalini has managed to do what very few authors have, and for a much longer stretch…make me accept and even like things that normally stop me from even picking up a book, like the mating for life thing; or just the fact that it’s a long running series. I have to see if she can manage this with H/S.

So, yeah, I’ll be reading this one. And I’ll even pay the ridiculous price for the ebook version if I don’t win a copy. I wonder if anyone who wasn’t already on the H/S bandwagon has reviewed KoS?

ETA:Hawke is the same age as Riley, which I think makes him early to mid 30’s.

  72. Kimberly J.

So glad that she’s going to be published in hardback now since I definitely consider her books keepers!

  73. Dee Tenorio
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 14:08:14

Honestly, I want this book because I am in terrible withdrawls from the Psy/Changeling world. Because I buy every book the day it comes out and I tell EVERYONE to read the series every chance I get. Because I HAVE to know what happens with Walker and what that rotating twisting star thing is and why he calms down kids and if Lara manages to get him… I’ll stop, because I can keep going on reasons why I want this book, but really, it’s because I WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT this book, lol.

  82. Nikki
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 14:24:10

I have been waiting for this book and the review definitely did not make the squirmy anticipation any better. Apparently, I enjoy torture. I have the book pre-ordered right now but if I win I will just by a Kindle copy. I have to say that I never really felt the age difference issue. I am not sure if its because I didn’t think of it or that the relationship itself has been building and overwhelms those questions. I would be interested to see Ms. Singh addresses the generational differences in subsequent books.

I think one of the things I really like is that her books have solid continuity and world-building. I feel like I am not only reading the romance for 2 characters but continuity for other characters I fell in love with in prior books.

However, I second Shuzluva and want to know where Kaleb’s book is. I would hate to have to wait as long as we did for Hawke’s book.

Throwing my hat into this snowball’s chance in hell giveaway ;) For Nalini, I’d read a print book. I’ve been waiting for KoS for over two years now. I about died when I saw on her website it wasn’t out until 2009 – I’ve loved Hawke from the start, and the whole forbidden love/off limits aspect with Sienna. *happy squee*
I’m so jealous of everyone who has already read it! (But you know, glad of the positive response across the board as well.)

I can’t wait to read this! I’ve been waiting for Hawke and Sienna to get together since there was even a hint that they’d be a couple. And OMG, Walker and Lara! I can’t wait to read about them. A previous book (Play of Passion I think) gave us some interaction between the two of them and now I want more. There are so many reasons I want to read this book, I can’t list them all!

Great review by the way! And thanks for the giveaway :)

    Hi
Nalini Singh is a great author. Ive read and love all her novels. She gives great hope to young New Zealand and Island writers. Been waiting for this book for what feels like forever, I have been counting down the days till Kiss Of Snow comes out. Its driving me and my friends crazy :P.

I can’t wait ’til Tuesday! The library purchased book seven in the Psy-Changling series and when I tried to read it I was totally lost! I couldn’t understand a thing about the world and refused to read the rest of the books. Then one day a friend offered me Slave to Sensation and I LOVED IT! I became an absolute fangirl! I’ve reread all the books in the series at least five times since.

    Apr 12, 2011 @ 14:46:37

I made myself skip the plot summary, but I couldn’t resist the rest. How often is it that a book that you’ve longed to read actually delivers? Not that often, I say, although now I’m trying to think of others…Hmmm.
Anyway, sign me up. This is the number one release of the year for me.

I cannot wait to read this book! And thanks to this review, I’m practically salivating for KOS even more. I was all sadface about the hardcover price and was going to wait for it in paperback but I don’t think I can now. So impatient!

And long repressed emotions finally surfacing and Hawke in all his sexiness? Total win.

I’ve been hoping to read Hawke and Sienna’s story for yers, ever since their first clash in Slave to Sensations and I want Kiss of Snow to be a total roller coaster ride!!! Those are two headstrong characters with hidden vulnerabilities we’s seen evolve over the course of what, 8 books now? Or is it 9? We’re already attached to them and that makes this book all the more attractive to me as a reader. Cannot wait to read this!!

The wait for this book is driving me insane! Really, it is (thus consider myself entered, so that maybe it won’t be as long of a wait). I actually like the age gap, since Sienna isn’t exactly immature and the fact that there is one drives Hawke crazy (along with all the other issues between them). ;-) Even though he’s probably my favorite character (with the possible exception of Judd & Drew), I love seeing a tortured/frustrated Hawke. Does that make me sadistic? lol. I do want him & Sienna to get their HEA of course, but I want them to go through all sorts of drama to get there. It makes the payoff that much more sweeter. :-) I also love the fact that they both want each other but can’t be together (or don’t think they can be right now). I always find myself rereading the Hawke and/or Sienna scenes throughout the entire series. There’s just so much tension there. I became an immediate fan when Sienna told Hawke off in Slave to Sensation (The whole “you’re making generalizations again” comment, lmao) & it just grew and grew from there. Anyway, thanks for the contest!

ps. Hawke should be around 34 years old, as he was 32 in Caressed by Ice (he tells Brenna his age), and Sienna is 17 in that one.

Hawke and Sienna have always been two of my favorite characters, right up there with Lucas and Sascha! I need this book… Thanks for the chance to win!

I love the Psy/Changling series. Singh does a great job at world building and getting the reader invested in all the characters that she introduces. This is one of the handfull of series that is on my re-read list. And i’ve been waiting for Hawke’s story since he first called Sasha “darling”.

I’ve been waiting for Hawke’s story from the beginning of the series. I’m going to be interested to see how this book works as I haven’t always thought Sienna was right for Hawke – but knowing Nalini I’ll probably eat my words and she will have made it a very emotionally intense read. That’s why I love her books – she always delivers.

Right begging over, the reason i want to read Hawkes story is since he blazed accross the pages of slave to sensation he (ok nalini )has been teasing my brain about him and his relationship with sienna. Sienna is the unknown… her character is the hard to pin down. Its driving me nuts!

I am a huge fan of Nalini and can’t wait to get this book. The Psy-Changeling world is probably one of the most complex and well-constructed ones in PNR right now. I am very excited that we are getting closer to the release date.

I started reading Nalini Singh books by mistake. Thought it was a different author, but then read her book and realised she is an amazing author who makes my brain come alive. Love it! I want a copy. Please! Pretty please! Please?! Gimme, gimme, gimme!

I cannot say how badly I want to read the review but I’m determined not to spoil the book!

I want (and will read) Kiss of Snow no matter the results, but sooner would always be better! This series has become one of my favorites and I’ve been dying to read a novel for this pairing since the characters were introduced (much like the elusive Cassie in the Breeds books, though that novel is a ways off).

An extra plus of receiving an ARC of Kiss of Snow would be writing my review of the book, between my Facebook, LJ and Amazon/Barnes and Nobel accounts I have quite a few friends who really love reading my reviews especially when they’re not sure what to read next.

    Apr 12, 2011 @ 16:58:01

Great review! Definitely touched upon different things than other spoilery reviews I’ve read thus far. I’m not the type to get crazy about being spoiler-free — doesn’t impede my enjoyment of a book at all!

The Hawke/Sienna pairing is not my ideal, but I know Nalini will hit it out of the ballpark! Besides, I’m dying to know what happens, plotwise, in the psy/changling world!

I’m in the midst of a Nalini Singh Psy-Changeling Binge! I just started this week, but my plan (because I recently started reading her in January) is to get myself ready and prepared for Hawk and Sienna’s book.

I too, from Slave to Sensation, hoped and wanted Hawk and Sienna to be together! I got 20 pages left of Hostage to Pleasure, then immediately jumping into Branded by Fire.

Yes! When I heard Hawk’s book was not yet out and then announced, i had to check WHO his heroine was. LOl

I deserve one of the eight books because I live in Germany and bought all books in english, because I can’t wait to read them.

i’ve gotten into the Psy-changeling series in the past month and I’m chomping at the bit to read the next book – Sienna / hawks tale has been simmering since the first book, and I’m eager to see how it progresses.
I’m also interested in seeing how Saschas mother Nikita progresses, as the books go on you feel that maybe Sascha didn’t pick up the empathy from her granny, perhaps her mum just hid hers well!
Please enter me in the draw.

I’m not sure if I can participate to the giveaway because I don’t know if you’ll send the winnings abroad too, for I live in Finland. But this is way too alluring opportunity to pass…so I decided I won’t lose anything if I try!

So the reason I’d love to have the newest Singh:

A friend of mine recommended the series to me many times saying I’d totally fall in love with it when I’d read the books. She went on and on about it and finally I bought the first one of the series on the February this year. And I very soon realized that my friend was right: I fell in love head over heels.

I had to buy the others of the series when I was in page 100 of the first book (so I wouldn’t have to take any breaks between the books)…and now I’m in the middle of the Play of Passion and already impatiently waiting for the next book to come.

So I’d absolutely love to get it from you! :)

Nalini Singh is my favorite author and the Psy/Changeling series is one I’ve read repeatedly. I can’t wait to read Kiss of Snow (and would LOVE to win a copy), not only to find out how Sienna and Hawke overcome the various obstacles that have been, and no doubt will continue to be, thrown in their way, but also to find out more about the world itself. Nalini’s development of every character as well as the storyline of the struggle between the races always keeps me on the edge of my seat in anticipation.

    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:17:34

I can’t wait for this book to come out!!! I received Slave to Sensation from a coworker who thought I could use some reading material while I was ill last year, and was hooked – finished it in less than 24 hours, reading through the night. And then I had to seek out the rest of the series, which I just gobbled up…including the novellas :)

It had been more than 10 years since I even picked up a romance novel, but Nalini’s work is so well thought-out, and her characters so well written (did I mention the storylines are totally sexy and hawt?!?) that I can’t stay away. *Sigh* Can’t wait…

  289. Tara
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:21:46

Sooo excited and cannot wait. I have been reading everything Nalini comes out with immediately and find I keep on going back to her books when I need something good to read and nothing else is grabbing my attention.

Hawke has always been one of my favorites and watching these two relationship grow has been intriguing… But, time is running too slow!

  290. Mary

  294. Kate
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:26:42

I’m not sure if this giveaway is open to international readers (Australia) but if it is I would love the opportunity to read Kiss of Snow a full month before I otherwise would be able to – every Psy-Changeling-Human book that is released just whets my appetite for the next one and PoP was no exception.

  295. Steph
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:27:24

As much as I would love to read the review, I don’t want to be spoiled before the book so I’m just going to have to wait.

    Hawke is HOT HOT HOT!!!

I am really looking forward to reading his story and finding more about Sienna!

I have been waiting for this book when the attraction between Hawke and Sienna began. I have read all the Psychangling books and the Arch Angel series. I love Nalini Singh’s writing style and her storylines are one of a kind!

    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:29:04

GAH! I’m rabidly waiting for this book! And I admit I skimmed the review because I just don’t want to know ANY details until I can devour Kiss of Snow firsthand! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me win!!! *crosses everything and squeezes eyes shut* (yeah, I know it’s a random draw)

  299. Tamara
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:29:39

I love both of Nalini’s series’. Her writing has spoilt me for other authors, as I now expect them to produce the same high standard as she has conjured in both her Psy/Changeling series and the newer Archangel series. I have quite happily ‘infected’ my reader friends from around the world with her exciting, sexy and captivating worlds. She is a brilliant Kiwi author and does any Antipodean reader proud!

    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:30:06

I’m so excited for this book!!! I’ve been looking forward to it since Hawke’s and Sienna’s first scene in Slave to Sensation. I didn’t read the review, but I’m glad that both reviewers gave it A’s!

  303. April
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:31:56

I have read all of the Psy/Changling books, and I adore them. I’ve been looking forward to Hawke and Sienna’s story since they were first introduced and had that chemistry going on (it kinda creeped me out that she was so young, but I was really hoping someday it’d go somewhere). Seriously can’t wait to read it, I’ve re-read all the sneak peeks that Nalini has posted on her site too many times to count!

    ^_^

I freakin’ LOVE this series. Nalini Singh is one of my must-reads, and I always go out of my way to get anything she writes :D
And we’ve been waiting so long for Hawke’s story… He seemed like a lost cause since his mate died in childhood but now I’m excited to see how his story works out:)

  306. Zoe
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:34:32

Thanks for such a comprehensive review. That will hold me until the book’s release which is coming up, thank goodness. Could we ask that the men in these books perhaps be sometimes vulnerable and not dominant, and sometimes dominant? A mixture, just like real men seem to be? It’s never as simple as a straight binary, imho.

Great review, and didn’t mind the spoilers at all!
I Have been waiting for their book since Nalini first showed us their connection. I want to read their story cause of all the parings, this is the most interesting one. It’s the first Psy/wolve paring but also the most anticipated. I have read and reread the small momments Nalini has shown us since the moment it was clear they were ment for each other.

    Count me in =)

Even before I heard about KOS I knew Hawke and Sienna would have their own story, possible from their 1st major interaction. The more and more I hear about KOS the more I am filled to the point of combustion with exciement to read it. All the sparks and sass throughout the series between the two have finally reached a breaking point and I can’t wait to to dive in, unless the anticipation kills me first!

    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:41:20

I cannot wait for the release of this book! Hawke and Sienna (sigh) …….I don’t know that the book could possibly live up to my expectations but I am definitely going to read it AS SOON AS I CAN (and probably in one sitting). Not sure why this couple has fascinated me from the very beginning but the sexual tension is delicious. I didn’t read the review or any of the comments because I didn’t want to accidentally encounter a spoiler. May 31st is sooooo far away….can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait!!!

Thanks for the review. I’m so excited to hear that both of you loved it, but that makes waiting to get my hands on it even harder. I cannot wait for this book to come out. I dislike large age differences in Romance novels, but I love both of these characters so much that I’ve resigned myself to it. I know that this will be a stay up and finish it read for me.

OMG, I have been dieing for their story since the introduction of the characters!! I love the annimosity they have towards each other because of the pull they feel. I just knew they would end up together. The spoiler given about the club scene and their dance in the moonlight has got me on fire!! lol

This whole series is fantastic. Nalini is one of my very favorite authors!!

  325. Sheryl O.
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:46:58

I love all of her books and have been waiting for this book ever since Hawke starting teasing Sascha to annoy Lucas. You just knew some payback must be coming. Plus, this gives me an excuse to start back at the beginning and re-read all of the books, just in case something might be important don’t ya know ; )

On a second note ladies, in CBI, Hawke states he’s 32 to Brenna. Assuming a year and a half has passed since then….He’s 33 years old. I’ll have to go back to find the page, I’m beyond certain he said he was 32 in CBI. XD

I have been waiting so long for this book and counting days! The review was awesome and you didn’t give any spoilers which is good! I understand the age difference i’m 20 and I keep thinking how would I react in a situation like that, well not the psy part or the war … but the relationship with an older man… hmmm can’t wait to read it! It would make my day, heck my year if i won the ARC book…ahh to dream!

    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:54:07

Pick me! Pickme! *waves like a rabid fangirl!* LOL

I’ve been a Hawke/Sienna fan from Slave to Sensation. I think one of the fan forums figured out that Hawke was 15 yrs older than Sienna.

Great review. Not spoilery, imho, but still very rich in information. Shuzluva, I would love to hear your thoughts about PoP :)

I do have to wonder tho, if people who have not read the previous Psy/Changeling books realize that this series has a real arc plot running through all the books (one of things that is totally awesome about it). I really think you miss something reading this series out of order.

Can’t wait to read it and the glowing reviews make the hardcover/agency model pricing a little easier to swallow.

  334. Paula Patience
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:54:31

Wonderful review, ladies. And love Nalini Singh’s books! I’m already pre-ordered for an ebook and hardcover, but if you’re givin’ away an ARC, sign me up, please! The suspense is killing me. And if I recall correctly, Hawke was mentioned as age 32 in Caressed by Ice (or somewhere around that novel), so in this one he’s probably about 34, maybe?

  335. Julia
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 18:54:34

Dying to read this book…more so after this awesome review…

btw if I remenber correctly their ages are mentioned in one of the former book (caressed by ice maybe????) and if I remember correctly there’s a 14year difference between Hawke and Sienna

This review is wonderful in the sense it’s going to drive me crazy until I get to read the book! I absolutely love all the Psy/Changeling books, they are unique and original in a genre that is becoming increasingly difficult to write under. I think the plot line was well woven and it seems as if this book is going to answer so many questions. I would also be very pleased to win a copy of this book to see how Sienna’s relationship with Hawke will play out (it has been most anticipated since book one)!

I have a countdown for Hawke’s book on my chalkboard in my classroom. I feel that this book will be lifechanging. Also, Hawke should be 34 years old, because he was 32 in Caressed By Ice.

Oh please, pick me! I want to read this book so freakin’ badly that I’m going to pop!! If I have to pick one reason, it’s that I want Sienna to be more comfortable in her own skin. Well, ok, that and I want Hawke to be comfortable in Si… ok, can’t say that one out loud! ;-)

Oh, and I believe Hawke’s age was given in Brenna & Judd’s book as 33 (at that point) if that’s any help!

    Apr 12, 2011 @ 19:40:58

I fell in love with the Psy-Changeling series when I read Slave to Sensation. Introducing beings like the Psy were the first thing that grabbed me straight away and ever since, I’ve been hooked. I’ve wanted Sienna and Hawke to be together since book 1 and I loved how Nalini made sure to have some type of dialogue involving them in almost every book. After book 5 or so, I was beginning to become afraid that Nalini would never write Hawke’s story, but then I heard of Kiss of Snow last year and have been waiting impatiently ever since.

I wanted to address the reviews that didn’t like the age-difference between Hawke and Sienna. I myself had lots of traumatic events happen to me in my life and I would hate for people to look at my age and assume things about me. I was very mature by the age of 14, more than I should have been. I know that now, but at the time, I was just being me. I didn’t think I should be more playful or carefree or ignorant…I couldn’t get my childhood mentality back, even if I wanted to. Experiences change us on a fundamental level, and when people try to box people into ‘acting their age’ I think we miss out greatly in how we see people. I was actually really happy that Nalini was writing a book where the characters ages were different. Now, I’m not advocating for 80 year old men to start courting 10 year old girls. However, my grandmother was 12 years older than my grandfather and they were married for over 20 years. Love knows no age and what can be gained by Sienna being 30? I don’t think Hawke would love her any more or be any less resistant towards her because of it. Sienna is a woman in every way and 19 years old doesn’t have to mean that a girl parties and sleeps around and acts immature. A 19 year old woman can absolutely be very versed in the world and I don’t think it’s weird at all that she’s almost 20 and Hawke is around 34. If they are both in the same place in their lives and want the same things, I say, go for it, and I absolutely cannot wait to see how Nalini plays the book out.

Please let me win this book because I think Kiss of Snow might not just be my favorite in the series, but one of my favorite books that I have ever read. I was so jealous that some people were given the ARCs; May 31st is entirely too long for me to wait. And I love the conservative matches! Call me old fashioned, but I think it’s romantic that Hawke is a man’s man, that he can take care of himself and wants to take care of her. At what point did we, as women, become offended that a man wanted to be the provider? I cannot wait until Kiss of Snow comes out because it is a rare thing in a series, where I can read the last page, close the book, and be completely satisfied with what the author has done, without any complaints. Karen Moning did that for me in the Fever Series, and I have the same high expectation of Nalini Singh’s book as well.

These books are amazing, and I can not wait to read the next chapter of this story. Plus, I am looking forward to seeing Hawke have to go through his paces with Sienna – he needs a little fun in his life!

I absolutely LOVE this entire series! I have read tons of books and series, and I have NEVER craved a book so strongly in my years! (I am NOT that old!) Recieving a copy of this book would be a total slice of heaven. This series has such a perfectly constructed chain of events, but just enough suspence to make it worthy of being read. This series is driving me crazy, Crazy, CRAZY! In a good way! You just gotta love the pleasure-pain of waiting for the next novel in this superb series. Good luck to all and to myself on actually wining a copy!

I do not think my first post went through, so here we go again haha. Sorry f this comes through a bunch of times.

I love Ms. Sing’s books and I feel like I have been waiting for this story forever! Hawke has captivated me from day 1 – I am always up for a tall, stormy and handsome alpha male :) I love how Ms. Singh writes about her characters, because they come alive for me and I end up thinking about them and rereading their stories often because they are so engaging! I can’t wait to see Sienna torture and play with Hawke, haha, such fun!

I am from the tiny island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean. I am always purchasing books online from Amazon. I discovered Nalini Singh psy-changeling series on a recommended list from amazon and I have not been disapointed. I have a copy of every book in the series written thus far and have fallen in love with all the characters. I may have re-read each book at least twice. i am so anxious to read a copy of Hawke’s book. I know it comes out in the US may 31st but i will probably receive it middle of June. It would be real nice if I could get an early copy of Kisss of Snow. Nalini you have fans across the ocean. My book club love you!

I plan to stay home from work and read this book. Nalini Singh has become my favorite author in the paranormal romance genre. I love the intricate and tight story lines. The plot for Hawke and Sienna’s story has been building through most of the Psy-Changeling books and the build – up is why I’m here, hoping for an early copy.

I, too, am anxiously awaiting the release of this book! Since I first started the Psy-Changeling series, I’ve been, well, enamored with Hawke. He’s such a strong character that it must have been both a trial and a treat to write this book. I can’t wait to read it!!

Of course, I also agree with you all that Vasic, Aden and Kaleb would be great main characters (for their own books, I mean). Of course, so would Jem and Kenji, Kit (eventually), and many others!

These books just make you dream of being in the Psy-Changeling world with these characters!

I am looking forward to this book. I cannot imagine it was an easy one to write with such a strong, anger filled main character and an powerful, younger reluctant love interest. Easy to lose this one to trite and sap.
I really hope Nalini writes about Vasic. Every time he is in a book he is so fascinating. It would be so interesting to see where his story would lead. I re-read Slave to Sensation as it remains my favorite of the series.

Oh man. I am addicted to Singh’s lovers. She makes me re-read tropes that are usually deal-breakers for me: the seeming valuation of people based on their ability to wreak devastation, for one. The world of Psi and shapeshifter societies is boring and unconvincing as SF, but her relationship-building totally wins. I crave this book.

Complicated characters with emotional and physical layers (that are not immediately apparent), intricate main and sub-plots and an abilty to write hot love scenes that are tailored to the particular characters— what more can you ask? Maybe that Nalini has many more books in this series yet to be written. To top it all off, “Kiss of Snow” is her entry into the hardcover world. Congrats Nalini!

When I saw spoiler alert, I told myself to stay away. But as always, I dived right in. Excellent review ladies! How you made me more excited for Kiss of Snow when I am already counting the seconds until its release…I’ll never know! And that tease about the club scene….not cool. (I hope Kit is ok :0/)

I love the Psy-Changeling series. So far I’ve read books 1, 3 and 5. I’ve been looking for the others in the series at the bookstores around my place. Unfortunately with minor luck.

I have been dying to read Hawke’s story right from the beginning when he was first introduced in Slave to Sensation – Lucas and Sascha’s story. He just seemed like such a strong lead character. As for Sienna, you just know she’s going to shake up his world! ;)

Please enter me in this giveaway.

Please throw my name into the hat.

I’m scheduled to take my CFA exam on Saturday, June 4th and would like a chance to read it now because I know I won’t have the opportunity to enjoy it upon its official release date, May 31st. I’ll be too stressed then!

This series has hooked me from the beginning. I cannot wait to read about Hawke and Sienna. I was also interested in the subplot of Walker and Lara, so am happy to hear that they will be in this too! Here’s hoping I get an ARC!!!

That was a great review – now I’m all curious about Walker and Lara! As for Hawke, isn’t he 32 waaay back in Brenna&Judd’s book?

I’d love to win a copy of the book. :)

I cannot WAIT to read this book! I’ve been invested in Hawke and Sienna’s story since the very beginning, and I’m so glad to hear that Nalini Singh delivers (not that I ever really had any doubt). Thanks for the awesome review and giveaway!

    Apr 12, 2011 @ 21:28:12

I can not wait for this book! I picked up Slave to Salvation on a whim in the library based on boredom. The next day I ordered online the rest of the series up to Branded by Fire (all that was out to that point). I have been anxiously following the series ever since. I rarely stay committed to series as I find the plot to grow thin and the characters to get watered down. Not so with this series, I love these books and this world is alive! I definitely feel like I am friend with the characters and highly engrossed with the plot.

I love Nalini’s books, she is a MUST BUY for me and I don’t have this one yet and so would love to be entered and good luck to everyone (and me). I’m feeling pretty lucky today as my niece just gave birth to the first baby of his generation, and on my dad’s birthday(passed away 8 years ago) and with my dad’s name too :) …there’s a lot of love flying around today over this birth :)

I’m crazy, crazy, about Nalini’s books and I’ve been anticipating this one for YEARS. I just knew we were heading for Hawke and Sienna from the first glimpses we got of them together so I can’t wait to see how their romance finally plays out.

I skimmed through the review. I so did not want to get spoiled even a bit because its Hawke and Sienna. And from your reviews, the book seemed to have turned out quite good too. I would love to win a copy but looking at the number of comments.. Anyhoo June seems pretty far away now…

  477. Craven Coward
    Apr 12, 2011 @ 21:52:16

I didn’t read the review because (a) I already know I want to read the book, and (b) I want to know as little about the book as possible before I read it. I want to be surprised. I am always worried when a book series makes the leap from paperback to hardcover. It usually signals the beginning of the end (i.e., quality and originality decreases when cover price increases), but I have hopes that Nalini Singh will be an exception.

I had been vaguely disdainful of adult paranormal romance until I discovered Nalini Singh’s books. Shame on me. They blew me away with the beautiful writing, sizzling romance and the complex social politics of the series story arc. I skipped the review, as I’m wary of spoilers, but I would love an advance copy.

I am so sick to my stomach, I will read anything that mentions this book, as I am trying to steel myself so I don’t read any spoilers but I am weak as all get out!!!!!!!! i think that as long as you are 18 and over you have the right to date anyone 18 or older. i think to broadly say that one is more mature/less mature due to age or would respond a certain way due to abuse/neglect is unfair. personal hang ups do not negate the sincerity of a relationship and there are many relationships that exist with such an age gap that work as those that don’t. I cannot wait for the book and will not get my hopes up for a chance at winning. I pre-ordered the nook book.

A friend of mine introduced me to Nalini Singh two months ago and I got caught up on the series in a couple of weeks. I have re-read thee books several times (Brenna and her sexy Psy assassin are my faves). The world Nalini created is so intricate and smoking hot that I can’t get enough of it. I’ve been going slowly mad waiting for Hawke and Sienna. Don’t think the age difference will be much of an issue, I’m sure Miss Nalini’s got it covered.

I’ve got my heart set on a Kaleb book sometime in the not too distant future. That damn Psy is just soooo intriguing. Nalini totally rocks….

I have read the whole series now about 4 times. I can barely, barely wait for the Sienna and Hawke story. I want to know the full details of what happened to Hawke’s original mate. I want to see how Nalini is able to work around the concept of mate that she has created so far. I am also very interested in finding out whether Silence actually falls. How it happens. And I want to find out more about The Ghost and Kaleb. I want to understand Sienna’s power and, if Silence does fall, what will replace it. How will the Council sort out its differences, and more detailed information about Nikita. I can’t wait. Too many exciting possibilities.

Just read the review :) I’ve never actually read Nalini Singh before, but your review has made her sound amazing! Since you guys recommend this book so much, I feel like starting on her backlog – maybe with this one? :D

Okay, worth a try. Someone’s got to win. ;-) I put off reading Nalini Singh for the longest time (had trouble getting into the first book), but now have read both series. I’m skipping the review for now, and will read the book as soon as I get it (not always the case).

Would make an awesome birthday present for me. ;-)

    Apr 13, 2011 @ 00:18:28

I have been reading the Psy-Changeling series since the beginning, and aside from Judd and Brenna I cannot think of a more volatile and sexy relationship than Sienna and Hawke. I have been waiting for this book since Slave to Sensation because those two deserve an HEA. I think Hawke is one of the most dynamic and strongest characters in the series, and Sienna is definitely his match. Ok so I kind of want to be Sienna in this book.
I would love to read Kiss of Snow!!!!

If this is open internationally, then count me in. I love her books. I like both her series and can’t decide which one is better. I’ve been waiting for Hawke and Sienna’s story for so long. Maybe now this upcoming book will supersede Slave to Sensation from it’s number one spot in my ratings :)

I got interested in the Psy-Changeling series reading the back blurb of ‘Caressed by Ice’ (Judd’s story) but I got the feeling this was a series best read in order, so I bought the first 3 books, one per payday and loved each one, knowing the next installment was just a half-month away. Then when ‘Caressed by Ice’ was finished, I was stuck waiting until the next one was published. The Psy-Changeling series is one those series that as soon as I know the pub date of the next one, I write it down in my calendar. When I heard that ‘Kiss of Snow’ was coming out in hardcover, my wallet let out a moan of distress but I cheered for Nalini, since I know the jump to hardcover is a sign of ‘making it big.’ Since I won’t be able to afford ‘KoS’ in hardcover, I requested that the library order it, so I could be first to read it whenever it arrived at the library. But there’s only so much money they have available, so there’s no way to know when it’ll be purchased. Then I’ll have to wait a full year before I can own my own paperback copy. So I’m jumping at the chance to get a copy when it comes out!

Thank you Janine and Shuzluva for a terrific and thought-provoking review (not too mention making me even crazier to read ‘KoS’)and thank you Nalini for writing stories that are some of the best I’ve ever read.

I have dropped out of an untold number of paranormal series over the years. Nalini Singh is the only paranormal author that remains an auto-buy for me and her series are the only ones that I continue to follow with great eagerness. I have been counting down the days until Kiss of Snow’s release, getting over my initial irritation about the switch to hardcover release. Just last night I was up late scouring the Internet for any spoilers I can find. I nearly jumped for joy when I saw this blog heading! Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy of this book!

I really really wanna read this book…mostly cos i stumbled upon singh’s psy/changeling series at a very difficult point in my life and they literally saved me. Everytime I felt sad or disappointed i would pick up SLAVE TO SENSATION or Clay and Talin’s book and I’d feel emotionally buoyed up. I’ve noticed the chemistry between Hawke and Sienna from the very beginning and I’ve really wanted to read Hawke’s book ever since he admits to his mate being dead to Sascha. Hawke is exactly the sort of guy a girl goes crazy over…handsomein a rugged way..wounded where you can’t see but can sense..and hence you want to heal him. And Sienna is an X-Psy. They’re supposed to be non-existent ..or at best dead at an early age..yet here she is…I mean c’mon..it just doesn’t get any better.

I’ve been dying to put my hands on this book!!!!!! So I’m gonna skip the review……….until I can’t help myself anymore anyway.

Hawke is one of those characters that just get’s to you. This lonely and powerfull man that’s been fighting that atraction for two years. That takes strengh and character.

And Sienna, powderkeg Sienna, what is she after all. What can she do?? The first time I was introduced to Sienna she looked like a strong kid, treated as an equal by the rest of the Laurens, that just like to infuriate autorative figures.

In Branded by Fire when she had that tal with Sacha and wisperers Hawke’s name, it nearly broke my heart.

Like I said, I’m dying to get this book. I know it’s gonna be amazingly well written, I know it’s gonna have a hell of a background story, but most of all it’s gonna have an Alpha that lost it’s mate (God, I hope not) and the girl strong enough to take him on.

I’m bitting my nails thinking if I should read the review…..

    Apr 13, 2011 @ 02:39:10

I really want to read this book because it has so much promise . . . which has been building right from the start of this fantastic series. There are soooo many questions that need to be answered – Sienna’s Psy designation and her incredible powers, Hawke and the fact that he has already met his mate . . . Lucas & Sasha and the start of the next generation, the Ghost . . . . . and also I want to be convinced that Sienna is right for Hawke, as at this moment I have niggling reservations regarding her maturity/match for him . ..

**THUD** Faints dead away with the anticipation

I’m really waiting for Kiss of Snow — so much that I just pre-ordered it in spite of my self imposed ban on pre-ordering books…

@ Shuzluva: I was bothered by “the lack of a positive submissive male model” in Play of Passion as well – and I think I know which other plot point you are referring to.
This series is one I actually re-read on a regular basis, so I have to call myself a fan, but the more I read and re-read the more the traditional gender roles bug me. In some books, and especially the last short story, I noticed a show/tell difference: I was told the heroine was strong but she acted just the other way. This might be a topic for a seperate discussion?

Please, please let me win a copy of Kiss of Snow! Nalini Singhs Psy-changeling series has captured my heart, I’ve re-read my books dozens of times, her world is so complex I would love to be able to create something so amazing myself – this series inspires me, I’ve created a whole series of fan videos and art based on the series.
I’ve arranged for this book (like all of the others) to be shipped from the US when it’s released but will be away with work for a whole week when my book arrives, I’m so disappointed! Winning a copy of Kiss of Snow would make my year :)

When I first read Slave to Sensation all those years ago, I have wanted to read Hawke and Sienna’s story. Singh’s Psy characters have always resonated with me, their loneliness and isolation, the lack of affection. I can’t wait to get my hands on it and would be so ecstatic to win!

    Apr 13, 2011 @ 07:59:41

I would really like this book because I am a huge Singh fan, but don’t have a hardcover budget. (Can I for a moment express my annoyance when they switch print styles mid-series? now my book shelf won’t look right at all… I know it’s good for her to get upgraded to HC, but I wish they had launched the angel series in HC rather than switching the psy series. )
I am looking forward to finding out how they resolve the fact that Hawke already had a mate. That has always been the most interesting part of their conflict to me. That’s my number one thing. I also think that Sienna deserves to be happy; she does a lot of martyr, “I do it for my family” stuff early on.

Also, my personal next hope is for kaleb’s book or the Ghost (But I think they may actually be the same person. Am I the only one who thinks that?)

The Psy-Changeling world created by the wonderful Nalini Singh never fails to deliver exciting, passionate and heart-breaking storylines. We were teased with the potential of a Hawke-Sienna match-up since Book 1, and here in Book 10, I can't wait to see how their personal story unravels.

    Apr 13, 2011 @ 08:28:19

Ugh, I gave in and read the review b/c I need all the details I can find!!! I keep torturing myself by checking ms.singh’s website everyday (sometimes twice a day haha) and looking at the countdown!
The review was wonderful; I completely agree with most of what was said. I definitely feel that Kiss of Snow will be in my top favorites along with Branded by Fire, Play of Passion, and Caressed by Ice (the whole Kincaid family i know!) I CANNOT wait for this book and the ones to follow.
Nalini Singh is truly an amazing story teller with a gigantic cast that keeps grows without losing a single thread from past books. I could only hope to reach her level of writing and plot/character development.
I would love to win a copy of Hawke and Sienna’s story!!!

I’ve been waiting for this couple since they made their first appearance in StS and every book just made me wanting their story more.
Thanks for the summary. That will calm my want for this book – for about half an hour. Then I’ll probably check out Nalini’s website for news – like I’ve been doing since she put up the first excerpt.

  700. Soma
    Apr 13, 2011 @ 08:59:33

This book is the culmination of the story of Hawke and Sienna which began in Slave to Sensation and signals the end of teh first arc in this storyline. The age difference, unresolved mating bond issues are the ones that will speak to Ms. Singh’s skills as a writer -at least she is not following the typcial romance novel story lines but rather tantalizing readers with the unexpected twists and turns. If a writer can bring a reader out of their comfort zone (i.e. age difference) and yet make the book a compelling read, she is truly gifted as a writer. These are all the reasons I would like to win an ARC and post a review of my thoughts.

I love Nalini and everything she’s written. I’ve been waiting for this book since we met Hawke in StS and can’t wait to read it. And you guys made some really good points about the book. Maybe if we’re really good Nalini will tell us how old Hawke is?

    Apr 13, 2011 @ 09:12:05

For the ones who have an issue with Hawke and Sienna’s ages, Why? In Historical romances, the age difference between the hero/heroin is always 10-15 years and those things sell like hot cakes.

  708. Connie B
    Apr 13, 2011 @ 09:13:49

I am extremely excited to read Hawke & Sienna’s book. I’ve read the entire series at least twice and some of the books innumerable times. Every time it’s like revisiting with old and fabulous friends. I’m so excited that I check Nalini’s blog page practically every day and look at the countdown. It makes me a bit teary-eyed every time I read something about the book. I would LOVE to win an advanced copy (never been very good with patience. haha).

    Apr 13, 2011 @ 09:25:48

Great review. I’ve been looking forward to this book for ages, and am currently rereading the series in anticipation. I just really want Hawke to have his happy ending, and I’m frantically excited about the bigger plot line – the war is coming, and I cannot wait to see if san Fran gets saved.

If international participants are allowed, please count me in.

@Shuzluva: Branded by Fire and Play of Passion are my two favorites of the series, precisely because of their turning about of the traditional gender roles in shifter lore. I’d be very, very interested to discuss this more with you, but I fear this comment might get lost in the sea of drooling readers who want to enter in the giveaway. (I fully admit to drooling a bit myself as well.)

Anyway, feel free to contact me to discuss the whole matter of dominance and gender roles in Nalini’s books, because it’s a topic close to my heart.

I am a HUGe fan of Nalini Singh’s books since I discovered them last year. Would love the chance to win one of the advanced copies.

I’ve been a huge fan since the first Psy-Changeling story came out with Lucas as the main hero. I think its only fitting Hawk, gets to cap this arc story line. I can’t wait to read it and future books to come in this series! :) Going to be a great start to summer!

In Caressed by Ice, Hawke said to Brenna that he was only 32…or maybe it was 33. So now you just need to know how many years have passed since then. He’s probably 34 or 35.

I have been simultaneously dying for and a little bit dreading this book. I have been wanting to read Hawke’s story since he first showed up in StS. After all this time, I had gotten a little worried that it might not live up to my hopes, but your review has eased my mind. Thanks! I would love to get a copy.

    Apr 13, 2011 @ 10:32:44

Thank you so much for the review(s) it’s made it even more difficult to wait for the book but I know it’ll be worth it! I know there are concerns with the age difference however keep in mind that Sienna is the oldest female in the Lauren family structure which gives her an almost motherly role. In my opinion this really can account for her maturity level and explain why at times she seems much older. Responsibility wise she is older but chronologically she’s still a young woman. Just my opinion :-D.

    Apr 13, 2011 @ 10:53:46

That’s why I like Nalini Singh, she always keeps us, her fans, fascinated with her stories, always giving us something different with each book, one never gets bored with them unlike other authors with very looong series where the story is always the same, nothing different to offer, the same characters with different names and different bk title, if you read the book 1 or 2 of the series you have read bk 19 and so on.
This was an awesome review! can’t wait for this bk to come out, I’m currently doing a re reading of the complete Psy/Changeling series as a preparation for Kiss of Snow..can’t help to really luv those cats and wolves ^.~
And of course..I WANT ONE OF THOSE ARCS!!! =) pretty pleeeease..

Oh what a great review! I love all of Nalini Singh’s books and I’ve been waiting impatiently for this one. I’ve been dubious about the Hawke/Sienna matchup but as she has matured over the series, I came to accept it. It sounds like the book does a great job of laying out just how they fit each other. Plus all the other plot threads that we’ve been seeing the lead up to in other books. Nalini is a master at multiple plot threads and at characterization! Please enter me for an ARC!!! I’m having such a hard time waiting until May 31st!!!!

Love this series, especially when the focus is on the wolf and leopard packs. Nalini has been teasing us with Hawk and Sienna’s story, and watching the sparks fly has been so entertaining. Now that they get their own story, I can’t wait for their sexual chemistry to melt our socks off. Would love a chance to win this book.

Oh oh oh, I really want to read the review, but also do not want to be spoiled! And this is a really tough decision to just leave a comment. And before I know, I have already read some and already got spoiled!

While most readers are attracted to Hawk, I must say that my reason to read it is Sienna as I really enjoy learning about strong heroine characters. Since book one, we know that not only she is tough, but she is also willing and ready to butt-head Hawk. Although she is psy, she has very much in her the impulsive nature that makes her very much like Changeling. And in this book, she is determined to follow her heart. For me, knowing what she wants and does not hesitate to chase it makes her, in a way, stronger and braver than Hawk himself. ((But I'm not in the place to say until I FULLY read the book, so pleaseee count me in!!)

I love and own all of Nalini Singh’s novels and series. I have been a hugh fan of her talent for creating amazing worlds and characters that have great and passions. The Psy/changeling series shows such dichotomy between how the stoic Psy and the physical changeling worlds. I cannot wait for Hawke and Siennas book.
