GIVEAWAY: One Slightly Used Nook Color

The response here was so tremendous that I am sorry I have only one nook color to give away. Having said that, more people are using the affiliate links and because of that, Dear Author is going to giveaway one ereader a month (either Kobo Touch, Nook Touch or Kindle wifi). We’ll start that on August 1 .

The winner of the Nook Color is CK who wrote:

Awesome giveaway!

First book? I’d have to say Vampirates series for my 9yo since we are going on loooong car trip LOL. For me? Anything Shelly Laurenston to keep me laughing while on said trip. ;)

I bought a Nook Color for review purposes for the blog but despite the cool factor, I’ve not used it very often.  It’s actually been languishing in the house and I thought that there might be someone who would benefit from it here on the blog.

color nook personal

Here’s my review of the Nook Color and if you are interested in the Nook Touch, Bettie Sharpe did a guest review for Dear Author here.

I prefer reading on an eink device versus reading on an LCD screen and now that I have the Nook Touch, I can’t imagine that the Nook Color will get any more attention than it has in the past.  In sum, it needs a new home.

The Nook Color is in pretty good condition and comes with the gray faux leather case and a screen protector that is applied. I also have the wall charger and the original special USB cord (it has a longer tip to facilitate the “fast charging”) which will also ship with the device.

There is a small nick on one side which I have attempted to show in this picture.

I dropped the nookcolor once. I know.  I shouldn’t be allowed near electronics.

Just drop a comment with the first book you would load onto your semi-new nook color.  Contest ends Monday at noon CST.  This contest is open to international winners.

Other giveaways you might be interested in is the one that Courtney Milan and I are sponsoring at Goodreads for Unlocked. It’s a DRM free ePub and would be perfect for that semi-new nook color.

Jane Litte is the founder of Dear Author, a lawyer, and a lover of pencil skirts. She self publishes NA and contemporaries (and publishes with Berkley and Montlake) and spends her downtime reading romances and writing about them. Her TBR pile is much larger than the one shown in the picture and not as pretty. You can reach Jane by email at jane @ dearauthor dot com

  22. Amber E.
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 19:56:47

I actually would download Courtney Milan’s new book UNLOCKED, especially since you can only read it as an ebook. It seems like it has been getting nothing but an A review.

  23. SandyW
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 19:58:14

What an incredibly nice thing to do.

  38. Caffey
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 20:53:25

  46. Jane

My first book would be Sarah Addison Allen’s “Garden Spells” to read for the new book club I just joined. Or maybe I’d download the Miles Vorkosigan books for a trip I’m taking in August, or the new Loretta Chase that is coming out.

It would definitely get a good home here.

  50. Jeanne Miro
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 21:52:45

I would download The Naked Prince by Sally MacKenzie. It sounds like the perfect book to read while relaxing on a beach chair this summer.

I’d love to win the Nook used or not because they closed our local bookstore and with the busy beach traffic that had invaded our town on their way to the beach at the ocean two miles down the road I’d rather just lounge on in a beach chair in my back yard with a fun book.

Ah the joy of being able to “pick up” a book without even leaving the house – heaven!

  51. Tinker Bell
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 22:01:55

    Jun 12, 2011 @ 22:45:57

I have read some wonderful reviews about a book from one of my favorite authors, Julie Garwood called “The Bride”. It sounds like it has an intriguing historical romance storyline, which would make a great summer read to download and would be a perfect way to start reading adventures on a much wanted Nook Color. Thank you for thinking of others by passing along your Nook Color!

Wow! This is an awesome giveaway. I just bought 23 of the 25 books Unbridled Books offered as part of their 25 ebooks for 25 cents promotion. So in short, I’d download all of those and get started on them instead of having to sit at the computer to read them. I’m particularly interested in reading Panopticon.

Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews would be the 1st book I’d load.

  77. Mitzi H
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 01:49:18

I would use this to read to my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter. She doesn’t care much for the black/white screen on my Kindle, but I think the color screen on the Nook would make reading to her much more interesting/captivating. She loves books, especially those with lots of colorful illustrations and I truly believe that if I had a Nook with her books/stories on it and one that I can call her ‘special book reader’….like her Nana’s Kindle special book reader that cannot be touched by anyone except Nana (that’s me), she would love reading her stories on it. I’m certain it would become her ‘most cherished possession’…and nobody (including her big brother) would be able to take it away from her.

  78. Mitzi H
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 01:56:45

Dang…I forgot to leave book I would buy and I tried to edit, but couldn’t figure out what to do. The book I would buy 1st (of many) is: Llama Llama Mad at Mama… because (miss independent 3 1/2 year old) is just like her mama was at that age (my daughter) and all of us can use all the help we can get…Hehehe.

  79. Tolouse
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 02:51:56

I would start by downloading some Lisa Kleypas. I only recently discovered the greatness that is her books, and I’m now catching up with her backlist. Probably Sugar Daddy first.

  80. Dena

A Song of Ice and Fire! Finally caving and buying the series seems like a good inauguration for a new Nook. :)

  81. Ann G
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 03:50:05

There are so many books I would download if I won a Nook…maybe Julia Quinn’s new book.

  82. Dawn Jackson
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 05:14:02

I’d give the Nook to my son who’s serving with the Marines in Afghanistan and I’d download a book on building a greenhouses, as it was something he asked me to get him. I mailed a hardcover book to him and the indivduals who sort the mail for the troops in Afghanistan, burned several pallets of mail because they didn’t want to sort it. The book I sent him was in one of the packages destroyed. The nook color would give him the pictures in color and diagrams as well as the hardcover book, and also the ability to download instantly instead of waiting six weeks for a package that may or may not get there.

  83. Maureen
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 05:31:33

The first download I would pick is Yours To Keepy by Shannon Stacey since it has gotten so many good reviews.

    Jun 13, 2011 @ 05:48:46

I already have an ebookreader, but it’s a bit (pretty much completely) broken, so I’ve been looking for a new one. I tend to drop these things as well. I would transfer my copy of Kiss of Snow to the Nook. That way I could finally finish it.

  85. Dunja
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 06:06:50

  86. ReneeK
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 06:09:29

My first download would be “On the Way to the Wedding” by Julia Quinn, because somehow I MISSED a Bridgerton novel.

I (being an early adopter when I’m not poor) had an original Nook 3G, but it isn’t doing so well these days. I may have been too rough with it. My page turn buttons even cracked!

I promise, I have mended my ways. I handle new devices much more gently now.

  87. Gabrielle

I would load Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley, I am excited for this book and I loves me some Jacobite historicals! I also love when there are multiple time periods with ancestors and modern day women both having awesome love lives. I haven’t had time to get to it yet, so here’s hoping!

I’d be poppin’ over to Gutenberg to load it up with classics — Austen, Gaskell, Wodehouse, Conan Doyle — to get the hang of it, then transfer my already-purchased but yet-unread copy of Unlocked over from my PC.

My first book would be “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society” cause it made me remember why I love reading so much and that books can really be enchanting escapes.

Though I like the suggestion of Courtney Milan’s “Unlocked”, I already bought it, so I would load “Captives of the Night” by Loretta Chase, wackadoo cover & all.

I think I would load a picture book for my kids. My 6-year old daughter gets a kick out of borrowing library books with my older Sony, but the covers and the drawings always disappoint her. And my 4-year old won’t even glance at the screen because there are so many words and no drawings :) It’s not quite in the budget at the moment to buy them their own dedicated tablet or color reader, but I would dearly love to cut down on the number of books we have to find shelves for in their rooms…
