GIVEAWAY: One Slightly Used Nook Color

UPDATED WITH WINNER:

The response here was so tremendous that I am sorry I have only one nook color to give away. Having said that, more people are using the affiliate links and because of that, Dear Author is going to giveaway one ereader a month (either Kobo Touch, Nook Touch or Kindle wifi). We’ll start that on August 1 .

The winner of the Nook Color is CK who wrote:

Awesome giveaway!

First book? I’d have to say Vampirates series for my 9yo since we are going on loooong car trip LOL. For me? Anything Shelly Laurenston to keep me laughing while on said trip. ;)

*****

I bought a Nook Color for review purposes for the blog but despite the cool factor, I’ve not used it very often.  It’s actually been languishing in the house and I thought that there might be someone who would benefit from it here on the blog.

color nook personal

Here’s my review of the Nook Color and if you are interested in the Nook Touch, Bettie Sharpe did a guest review for Dear Author here.

I prefer reading on an eink device versus reading on an LCD screen and now that I have the Nook Touch, I can’t imagine that the Nook Color will get any more attention than it has in the past.  In sum, it needs a new home.

The Nook Color is in pretty good condition and comes with the gray faux leather case and a screen protector that is applied. I also have the wall charger and the original special USB cord (it has a longer tip to facilitate the “fast charging”) which will also ship with the device.

There is a small nick on one side which I have attempted to show in this picture.

I dropped the nookcolor once. I know.  I shouldn’t be allowed near electronics.

Just drop a comment with the first book you would load onto your semi-new nook color.  Contest ends Monday at noon CST.  This contest is open to international winners.

Other giveaways you might be interested in is the one that Courtney Milan and I are sponsoring at Goodreads for Unlocked. It’s a DRM free ePub and would be perfect for that semi-new nook color.

Jane Litte is the founder of Dear Author, a lawyer, and a lover of pencil skirts. She spends her downtime reading romances and writing about them. Her TBR pile is much larger than the one shown in the picture and not as pretty. You can reach Jane by email at jane @ dearauthor dot com

This is very nice of you.

My first book on a shiny new reader? I’d look for Brom’s illustrated The Child Thief, in order to take advantage of the color display.

The first book I’d load would be “Senior Year Bites” by JA Campbell.

    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:08:20

The first book that I would load onto this device would most likely be The Hexhall series first book Hexhall, and then of course Demonglass would follow. I’ve read both of the books in paperback, but I’d love to be able to have them in eformat too! Especially since I traded Demonglass to another author because I wanted Rachel Hawkins to have more readers!

I would load it with both Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series and Stephanie Meyers Twilight and wrap up for my daughter.

They don’t have computer access so this would introduce her to the grand world of e-books.

The first book that I’d download is Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris. I’ve been holding off on reading it, and this would be a perfect reason to finally get it.

Wow, thank you for the opportunity.

I would load The Sisters Grimm (books 1 – 8) and give it to my 10 year old. She has started reading on my Kindle and doesn’t want to give it back.

I’d like to finish reading Courtney Milan’s book but I can’t get the kindle back! (Big waaah on that.)

  14. Chris
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:13:08

I would load The Cat in the Cradle Sketchbook by Jay Bell because I think the Nook Color could actually display the sketches nicely!

    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:14:30

I’ve been killing for an e-reader, but thus a family of both parents full-time students plus a child leaves the budget semi-limited for amazing technology like this. I would probably put On Writing by Stephen King and Joseph Campbells Hero with a Thousand Faces first. Then of course get the one that you are sponsering on Goodreads.com :)

    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:14:33

    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:18:59

Arrghh! If I were to win the Nook Color, I’d have to flip a coin and download either Nalini Singh’s KISS OF SNOW or Rachel Vincent’s MY SOUL TO STEAL. My teenaged son likes to read many of the same books as me, especially romance with a sci-fi or fantasy thread.

How wonderful that your gifting this to a winner…*S*
Alas my Kindle DX is slowly dying due to the extreme cold her in the interior of Alaska.
H accidentally left it in the truck when he ran an errand when the temps were -43 degrees.
    Hasn’t ran well since.
I have a couple of books I have to convert to put on my Kindle, and my Kindle doesn’t like it right now.

    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:26:38

This is perfect. Last weekend I apparently left my Sony eReader in Vegas last weekend and I’m going nuts without it. The Nook Color was going to be my choice after I saved money for it.
The first book I would load? That is a tough choice. There are a lot of books by K.A. Mitchell I haven’t read yet. L.A. Witt too. And Cameron Dane. SOOOO many choices.
Most likely something by Mitchell. That’s my final answer. Wait…no…yes… K.A. Mitchell.

  37. Carla
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:27:29

The first thing I would load on the Nook would be Artemis Fowl. My son loves to read and this would be perfect for him to take to his drs appts and procedures.

    This is an awesome giveaway!

Hmm, so many choices! I would probably download 15 books in the first 10 minuets- but the FIRST book would probably be Johanna Lindsey’s ‘When Passion Rules’.’

I only have the Kindle and Nook PC apps, so buying the digital version of THAT book wouldn’t seem worth it- but with a frecking Nook, Id download her whole backlist! LOL

    Thanks for the giveaway !

    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:27:54

Goodnight Moon would be my first pick because it’s my toddlers favorite. I love my Kindle for my reading but it doesn’t cut it for picture books for my kids and with a long driving trip coming up this would be the perfect way to take a little library with us without filling the trunk. lol

Name of the Wind, because I’ve only heard the audiobook and want to see what details I pick up one when reading the text myself…

Plus a few graphic novels. :) Nook Color is way better for that than black & white e-ink!

    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:32:04

Wow! This is such an awesome giveaway. I have been getting more and more book review requests on my blog (which is VERY exciting) but a lot of authors are sending PDF files. Only having my laptop to read off of is getting so frustrating! I have 7 e-books to read right now. So those would be the ones I would download first. Witch Song, Dream Crystal, just to name a few. I would greatly appreciate winning this giveaway. Thanks again for this opportunity!

    Thanks for the opportunity!!

The first book I would load (purchased) would be the Royal Weddings anthology that came out in early April. It is only available as an ebook & I’ve not downloaded an e-reader that is compatible with it… yet. I like Stephanie Laurens & would like to read her story in the anthology.

But there would also be a number of out-of-copyright books that I would download to read. Also a lot of non-fiction!

  53. Lisa Hightower
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:40:27

I think the first book I would load on it would probably have to be a Jane Austen, probably Emma since I haven’t read it yet this year.

I would love to win this because then with two nooks in the house the mister would not be so mad that I keep buying ebooks when he won’t be able to read them (because I am not handing over my nook, no way.)

  54. Deborah N.
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 12:40:59

I would load Cotillion by Georgette Heyer, which I’m dying to re-read. And there’s an “enhanced” ebook version of Bernard Cornwell’s The Fort for Nook Color I’d want to check out.

This would be a awesome way for him to read without taking up space paperbacks do in his truck cab. He’s gone for weeks at a time and in his down time he reads.

Awesome idea – first book? Tough choice, but I think I would have to go with Outlander by Diana Galbadon. Or maybe the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. No, wait…the Highlander series by KMM. Anything by Virginia Henley, or maybe the Dragon series by G.A. Aiken. On second thought, it might be best to download them all, then hide myself away for a reading frenzy. :-)

Gosh, I don’t know. I think I’d want to find something that would really make use of the color ability, like a picture book. So I guess I’d find something illustrated that my son would like, so we could look at it together.

Wow, I would so love to have this, since I only have a 1st gen Kindle currently (which, despite its limitations, I *LURVE*). I’d love to be able to expand my digital reading horizons, and the first book I’d put on it is anything by K.A. Mitchell. After two books, she’s totally 100% an autobuy for me, and I’m trying to glom all her backlist I can find, ASAP.

This is so nice of you! I would load a Nalini Singh book on it. I tried reading the Guild Hunter series a few years ago and I could not get into it. With the release of Kiss of Snow, I decided to give the Psy/Changeling series a chance. I read Slave to Sensation and loved it!!! So I’m working my way through the series. If I win, I’ll download whichever book I’m on at the time. To be honest, I’ll probably download all of them; I’m such a huge fan.

  238. Caffey

  250. Jeanne Miro
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 21:52:45

I would download The Naked Prince by Sally MacKenzie. It sounds like the perfect book to read while relaxing on a beach chair this summer.

I’d love to win the Nook used or not because they closed our local bookstore and with the busy beach traffic that had invaded our town on their way to the beach at the ocean two miles down the road I’d rather just lounge on in a beach chair in my back yard with a fun book.

Ah the joy of being able to “pick up” a book without even leaving the house – heaven!

  251. Tinker Bell
    Jun 12, 2011 @ 22:01:55

    Jun 12, 2011 @ 22:45:57

I have read some wonderful reviews about a book from one of my favorite authors, Julie Garwood called “The Bride”. It sounds like it has an intriguing historical romance storyline, which would make a great summer read to download and would be a perfect way to start reading adventures on a much wanted Nook Color. Thank you for thinking of others by passing along your Nook Color!

So in short, I’d download all of those and get started on them instead of having to sit at the computer to read them. I’m particularly interested in reading Panopticon.

  277. Mitzi H
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 01:49:18

I would use this to read to my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter. She doesn’t care much for the black/white screen on my Kindle, but I think the color screen on the Nook would make reading to her much more interesting/captivating. She loves books, especially those with lots of colorful illustrations and I truly believe that if I had a Nook with her books/stories on it and one that I can call her ‘special book reader’….like her Nana’s Kindle special book reader that cannot be touched by anyone except Nana (that’s me), she would love reading her stories on it. I’m certain it would become her ‘most cherished possession’…and nobody (including her big brother) would be able to take it away from her.

  278. Mitzi H
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 01:56:45

Dang…I forgot to leave book I would buy and I tried to edit, but couldn’t figure out what to do. The book I would buy 1st (of many) is: Llama Llama Mad at Mama… because (miss independent 3 1/2 year old) is just like her mama was at that age (my daughter) and all of us can use all the help we can get…Hehehe.

  279. Tolouse
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 02:51:56

I would start by downloading some Lisa Kleypas. I only recently discovered the greatness that is her books, and I’m now catching up with her backlist. Probably Sugar Daddy first.

There are so many books I would download if I won a Nook…maybe Julia Quinn’s new book.

  282. Dawn Jackson
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 05:14:02

I’d give the Nook to my son who’s serving with the Marines in Afghanistan and I’d download a book on building a greenhouses, as it was something he asked me to get him. I mailed a hardcover book to him and the indivduals who sort the mail for the troops in Afghanistan, burned several pallets of mail because they didn’t want to sort it. The book I sent him was in one of the packages destroyed. The nook color would give him the pictures in color and diagrams as well as the hardcover book, and also the ability to download instantly instead of waiting six weeks for a package that may or may not get there.

  283. Maureen
    Jun 13, 2011 @ 05:31:33

My first download would be “On the Way to the Wedding” by Julia Quinn, because somehow I MISSED a Bridgerton novel.

I (being an early adopter when I’m not poor) had an original Nook 3G, but it isn’t doing so well these days. I may have been too rough with it. My page turn buttons even cracked!

I promise, I have mended my ways. I handle new devices much more gently now.

I would be getting the latest from Annabel Joseph. I’ve just been on a binge with her books and I need MORE.

I would definitely load Just Like Heaven by Julia Quinn. I’ve wanted to read the Smythe-Smith stories for years ever since the first mention of the musicale.

Though I like the suggestion of Courtney Milan’s “Unlocked”, I already bought it, so I would load “Captives of the Night” by Loretta Chase, wackadoo cover & all.

I’m torn between Eloisa James’ Storming the Castle and Terry Pratchett’s Soul Music. Hmmm….decisions, decisions.

I would download “Yours to Keep”. I was excited to read it after your review and then discovered it was only available in ebook or audio format. So now I guess I need an ereader! Thanks for the opportunity!

I think I would load a picture book for my kids. My 6-year old daughter gets a kick out of borrowing library books with my older Sony, but the covers and the drawings always disappoint her. And my 4-year old won’t even glance at the screen because there are so many words and no drawings :) It’s not quite in the budget at the moment to buy them their own dedicated tablet or color reader, but I would dearly love to cut down on the number of books we have to find shelves for in their rooms…
