Oh, I must be old, because I still love Bat Girl (Commissioner Gorden’s daughter). This was in the 60′s when a woman superhero gave us young girls the belief that maybe someday we could be superheros just like the boys get to be.

Love this thread – reminds me of my favorite Foxtrot comic strip, with the brothers arguing about the best superhero (Batman’s nothing without his little toys. Superman has bulletproof skin – iirc).

My favorite heroine is Yomiko Readman from a Japanese anime called Read or Die. Her codemane is The Paper. She’s half Japanese and half-English with the power to control paper. She can construct flying planes out of paper or use it as a razor sharp weapon. She is also a GIANT book lover. She’s always surrounded by books and even runs around pulling a suitcase filled with books to read and to use as weapons.
I’ve always wanted her power since the first time I saw the anime. Then I wanted her unending supply of money to buy so many books. You can’t even find furniture in her apartment she has so many.
ummm i have to say Cutter and Leetah in the comics “ElfQuest” by Wendy and Richard Pini! i loved them so much growing up i babysat hours on end just to buy those comics in book form! and i shared them with all my friends! i hope i win i loved the iron duke and i know i will enjoy heart of steel!
When I was a kid, I always liked Aquaman. As an adult, I have a fondness for Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I always liked the New Mutants (X-Men spinoff.) My three favorite were Dani (psychic powers), Ilyana (raised by demons in a hell dimension, teleporting circles,) and Rahne (conflicted Scottish werewolf.) Not as well known, but I ate those comics up with a spoon in the nineties. :)

As for a hero of the male variety, I think I have to go with Batman as well. I realize all that lovely money gives him an edge, but there are plenty of rich people out there who don’t choose to do good or put themselves on the line on a daily basis. I like that he doesn’t have the reassurance of superpowers to back him up. Just his determination to help others! That makes him a true hero.

My favorite comic book characters are Rachel (Phoenix) Summers and Illyana Rasputin (Magik) during the 1980s. Both characters come from very fucked up backgrounds and do their very best to work on themselves to be better people/heroes.
For me,”Days of Future Past” and “Days of Future Present” are very bittersweet. I stopped reading comic books around the mid 1990s, but it did seem sad that Rachel Summers and Franklin Richards never got back together. Maybe something has changed since then and someone can tell me.

I’d have to say that growing up, my fav x-men was Jubilee. Probably b/c I was a 12 yr old korean girl who was thrilled there were asian superheroes.
I did love The Iron Duke and I’m dying to read Heart of Steel. My favorite superhero has always been Daredevil. I’ve always thought it was cool that a blind man could be a superhero.
Here’s where my jeans get real tight and I declare that superhero comics are too mainstream. Give me Spider Jerusalem over Spider-Man any day.
My favorite super hero would be Batman!
The greatest super hero of them all is of course, The Tick! Comic book series, animated Saturday cartoon, and a live action. You don’t get that without being awesome! Spoon!!!!!

It’s Elektra for me. I couldn’t believe it when Daredevil’s true love died. And I’m surprised to see so many romance readers must have been comic readers as well.

I loved Dante Valantine but if she doesn’t count then I’ll have to go with Jean Luc Picard. Also love Batman but JLP is cooler.
Favorite Super Hero or Heroine… probably Batwoman, because she was a librarian. I also loved Starfire, from teen Titans. Mostly because her personality seems to be one that would mesh with mine.
I will always love Rogue from X-Men. It doesn’t matter the storyline or the love interest (although I do love her with Remy), I love Rogue, period, forever.
My favorite hero is batman. My favorite non-hero but not a villain is catwoman! I’m also a big fan of them together.

With the Avengers movie around the corner and how excited about it, I’d have to say one of the Avengers is my favorite at the moment. So, it would be Ironman.
I love how snarky he is. I also like the juxtaposition between his power as iron man and his weakness outside the armor. This is carried on into his personality as well with his self-confident conceit and charm coupled with how much he actually dislikes himself.
I love most of the X-Men, but my favorite was always Rachel, the telekentic mutant who was Scott and Jean’s daughter from an alternate future… (She had my name! And my red hair! And my mental powers! Er, okay, maybe not that last one…)

Hey, thanks for running this awesome contest! Hands down, pants up, my ultimate favorit super hero is Superman. Christopher Reeve made me a true fan with all of his movies and I loved to watch Smallville. I liked the whole concept of how he came from another planet and he was raised by good folks who made him fight for truth, justice and most of all, always trying to find the good in people. All of that while trying to keep his x-ray vision in check and pretending that he could still get hurt of course ;-)

Dude, Martha Steward is my heroine. She can cook, make her dishes disappear, never gain weight after all that food, manage her money, take her jail, and craft like a mothertrucker.

Can I go with a superhero team? Because I just saw The Avengers’ trailer and now I can’t wait for that movie and those characters, most of whom I loved in the recent movies, with the exception of the Hulk, who I just don’t care for. With Joss Whedon of the Buffyverse at the helm, I’m expecting great things.
I hope it’s okay to mention Marvel superhero’s instead of DC comic hero’s. I like DC but I grew up on Marvel. Spiderman was my hero growing up. And he was a big influence in my life as well. My father actually taught me to read using his old Spiderman comic books. My mom would laugh when I swore I was going to marry Peter Parker when I grew up.
I love Wolverine from the X-men – and I can admit that Hugh Jackman has a lot to do with that :)
