2010 Berkley Winter Giveaway

Last week we held our quarterly giveaway for the Ace/Roc winter 2010 books and this week, we are hosting the giveaway of the Berkley Jove books for winter 2010.   Executive Editor, Cindy Hwang, provides these books for the giveaway.   Take a look at the preview and then at the bottom of the post there will be instructions on how to enter for a free book.

Right in time for the holidays, it’s the winter edition of the Berkley Jove giveaway! We have an awesome line-up of books that will keep you warm this winter, and as you can see from the number of titles we’re giving away, it truly is better to give than to receive. So get ready to stuff your stockings with some great books. Thanks, as always, to Jane and Dear Author for hosting this fun event. Don’t forget that we can only highlight a few titles–for a complete listing and more information about our titles, visit

Set 1 of Covers for the Berkley Giveaway Winter 2010

NO PLACE TO RUN is the 2nd book in Maya’s terrific KGI series, which got off to an outstanding start with the highly powerful and emotional THE DARKEST HOUR. This time, it’s Sam Kelly’s turn in the spotlight, as a woman who disappeared from his life after a brief, unforgettable affair returns with a vengeance–and with a promise of a future together. If they can survive the danger ahead first, of course. Maya has quickly become a must-read favorite of many readers, and NO PLACE TO RUN is truly romantic suspense at it’s finest.

Glory St. Clair, the lovable big-boned vampire, is back, and her love life is as exciting as ever. Now, it’s her erstwhile bodyguard Rafael who has moved back into her life–and her apartment too. There’s plenty of love, laughter and sexual tension in this terrific book, guaranteed to heat up your holiday!

National bestselling author Dakota Cassidy has wowed readers with her fun, irreverent humor and sexy romance for years. Now Dakota returns with an all new novel of contemporary romance, YOU DROPPED A BLONDE ON ME. You won't want to miss the story of Maxine Cambridge, ex-trophy wife extraordinaire who is ready to throw down some payback on her ex-life and battle for what's hers, and she’s even more determined to do it standing on her own.

Set 2 of Covers for the Berkley Giveaway Winter 2010

Eileen Wilks returns with the latest book in her Lupi series, and not only do Lily and Rule return, but Benedict, Rule’s enigmatic and sexy older brother, takes center stage with his own romance–and a new mate. I’ve been asking Eileen for Benedict’s story for years now, so I’m especially excited about BLOOD CHALLENGE, and I know there are a lot of readers out there who’ve been waiting for Benedict’s story too.

This is the enthralling conclusion to the blazingly romantic “Blood Rose” western historical romance trilogy that has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as “emotionally compelling…[and] flawlessly written.”

For historical fiction readers out there, don’t miss DARLING STRUMPET, which details the story of Nell Gwynn, probably the most famous courtesan of the Restoration period in England and perhaps the most beloved mistress of King Charles II. This story details her beginnings in the London slums to her rise in the world of the theater where she catches the eye of the king.

Set 3 of Covers for the Berkley Giveaway Winter 2010

This is the highly anticipated third book in the Guild Hunter series, as Archangel Raphael and Guild Hunter Elena Deveraux return to New York City, and Elena’s new status as an angel and Raphael’s consort puts them in the unrelenting public eye. But they have a lot more than public opinion to worry about, as an Ancient is awakening–an Ancient who is Raphael’s mother. This book is another major step forward in the utterly compelling relationship between Elena and Raphael, and fans won’t be disappointed!

NIGHTSHADE, Michelle Rowen
NIGHTSHADE is the first in a new urban fantasy romance series that is as riveting and page-turning as it gets. Jillian Conrad is put in the ultimate wrong place/wrong time situation when she’s injected with a serum that makes her a living, breathing weapon against vampires, but the poison also makes her blood nearly irresistible to vampire senses. Now sought after by both humans and vampires, her only protection is Declan Reyes, a half-vampire who can barely control his own urges around her. The sexual tension between Declan and Jillian just sizzles. It’s edgy, dark and compulsively readable–perfect for fans of both urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

Jill Shalvis consistently writes wonderful contemporary romances, and ANIMAL MAGNETISM is another winner. It features all the sparkle, humor and sensuality that Jill is known for, combined with a menagerie of adorable animals. Lilah, the heroine, owns the town’s only kennel, and is distracted by several animals when she rear-ends the hero’s truck. Sparks fly between the two, and you won’t want to miss the resulting fireworks.

I love the Berkley giveaway! Last year I won Kaki Warner’s debut and I’ve devoured every book of hers since (early review copies).

The gift I’m most excited to give: I went to Japan last month and bought some Japanese handkerchiefs for my dad and grandpa, who always have hankies on them. Now they’ll have very colorful hankies. Plus, Grandpa went to Japan just after the war and was amazed by the kindness and resilience of the people he met, so he says it’s the one place in the world he wishes he could go back to. Hankies may be small, but every time he uses them he’ll know I was thinking of him when I was there.

The books I’d like most from this giveaway: the ones by Maya Banks, Dakota Cassidy and Jill Shalvis. I love contemporaries.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

Considering the embarrassment I went through of asking the bookseller for a non-fiction with “Bogans” in the title, that bloody well be the best gift I’m giving! That bookseller may think I’m a bogan now, and crap – I have to go to that store again…

I’d most like to receive Michelle Rowen’s NIGHTSHADE, please.

The gift that most excites me to give this Christmas is a group of flag irises painted on a cedar panel. This is probably 100 years old and the flowers have a lovely velvety texture like old worn dresses. It is for my cousin who adores all things iris-y. This gift gave me the pleasure of finding it- I love hunting and collecting so it is special twice over.

The book that I would most like to win is BLOOD CHALLENGE by Eileen Wilks. I loved watching Rule and Lily come together over the first two books and hope for something equally poignant and healing for Benedict.

Like Shiloh, one of our kids is getting a Leapster Explorer. The older one is getting a DS, and I’m feeling very poor because of it. But, we’re hoping for some long stretches of quiet time during a 2-day drive at Christmas (during which I might be able to do some of my own writing or even watch a movie that doesn’t involve animated vegetables…) :)

I’d love the Vicki Lewis Thompson. I read Blonde with a Wand this year and I’d love to see what she does with werewolves

My family are notoriously hard to shop for. It’s pretty difficult when most of them are the “has everything” type, and their responses to what they’d like are smartass comments like, “A winning lotto ticket” or “Sanity”. Or worse, my Dad, who will tell you — and go out and buy it a week later.

So I’m looking forward to giving gift certificates to stores I know they love so they can pick out their own item and be satisfied in getting something they absolutely wanted. :P

I’m most interested in Eileen Wilk’s book. Love that series. :)

My favorite gift to I’ve this year is a really great wusthof chef’s knife to my mom. She got me a set when I moved, but doesn’t have a nice one herself. We love to cook together, so I always like kitchen tools as a present.

I would be equally happy with the Nalini Singh, the Christine Feehan, the Ava Gray, or the Dakota Cassidy. Some would be new to me and some I’m planning on buying the minute they come out regardless.

I’m reallnty excited to give all of my gifts. I love giving people presents lol. Maybe the one I’m most excited for is giving my dad his birthday present (Dec 24th birthday), since he never expects anything since people tend to overlook it with everything else going on.

The gift I’m most excited to give is a set of flannel sheets & a flannel duvet to my son. I just know he’s going to love them. He’s at the age (13) when he doesn’t want mamma hugs much at all anymore, and this is my sneaky way of hugging him all the time.

The book I want the most is Blood Challenge by Eileen Wilks. This series needs more love! It is fantastic. Really anyone who like Nalini Singh, give this series a try – I think you’ll love it.

My DD is getting married the first week in January. Her dad and I (besides the fairy tale wedding and all the trimmings) are giving her all the “little” things she and her new hubby will need to start their own home–from everything in the pantry to the cleaning supplies, to the outdoor spaces. We just thought her care package for college was big! LOL

Oooh! Benedict’s story? I want! So put me down for Eileen Wilks’ book, BLOOD CHALLENGE, please.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

I am excited to give the Charlie Brown gift set I found to my best friend that comes with a book, a little scraggly tree, and the one ornament. We have watched this together for years and she can add it to her display of her original copy of the book she had as a child.

It is not my normal thing, but I love animals and I’d like to try a new (to me) author, so Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis would be my choice from this list.

    Wow! Thanks for this contest.
I am most excited to give my mom framed black and white photographs of her parents. My grandma passed away earlier this year and when the family pooled our photos, we all saw some that we’d never seen before. We took the little 3×3 yellowed photographs of my grandma in her 20s and my grandpa in his 30s and had them blown up and framed. They’re both on bicycles in the late 1940s looking young and vibrant.
And I’m most excited to read the Jill Shalvis book. I like reading about animals if it’s not sickeningly sweet, and I’m sure Shalvis will handle that well.
