Save the Contemporary, Part 3: Instant Attraction by Jill Shalvis
UPDATE: The comments are closed but the good news is that Kensington is upping its copies for giveaway to 20! SB Sarah and I each have 10 books, instead of the original 5. We’ll announce the winners later today. Thank you so much commenters and thank you so much Kensington.
***
Here’s the deal: we dig this book. We dig this book like damn and whoa, and we think you will too. And yet, so many people say the contemporary romance is a dying breed. So, in order to spread the word and the opportunity to read it we’re doing a multi-level giveaway in tandem with our reviews of Instant Attraction.
Part the First: free books! Leave a comment and you’re automatically entered to win a copy. We each have 5 paper copies of the book give away, so drop a word here and at Dear Author and double your chances. Comments will be open for 24 hours starting now.
Second: Spread the Word! Below is a Sprout widget about our campaign, and a simpler animated graphic. Right-click-and-save the graphic, or grab the Sprout for yourself, and put it on your site. Let us know that you’ve done so via email (sbj.contest@gmail.com), and you’ll be entered to win a copy of the book, plus a Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder.
Spread the word, let us know, and you’re entered to win. That’s it.
The Spread the Word winner will be announced in 1 week, so tune in on Monday 26 January to see who wins a book and a really kickass video camera in our quest to Save the Contemporary.
Why? Because if there’s one thing that makes us sad, it’s the idea of contemporary romance dying out. So spread the word, buy a contemporary, and save the world.

I’m always up for winning stuff.
Is the contemporary romance really dying? While I mostly read regency, my second favorite author, Susan Elizabeth Phillips (behind Julia Quinn) is contemporary. So I hope it doesn’t just disappear.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 07:46:30
I would love to win!
Jan 19, 2009 @ 07:51:59
I’ve been reading so much about this book – I would love to win a copy!
Jan 19, 2009 @ 07:55:20
Looks like an interesting read. Would love to win a copy!
Jan 19, 2009 @ 07:57:31

Jan 19, 2009 @ 07:59:06
I love Jill Shalvis – what a great storyteller! I’d love to win a copy of her latest.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 08:04:40
I don’t really read much contemporary romance. Yikes, I guess that makes me part of the problem. Maybe this book can get me hooked!
Jan 19, 2009 @ 08:11:39
I’m in. I love the Shalvis.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 08:21:05
I love reading – period. I love contemporary and am always open to suggestions. I have never read this author and would love to try her – based upon your review, i probably will even if there is no freebee in my future! And I have to admit that sports-themed books don’t generally excite my interest but you did a good job here!
Jan 19, 2009 @ 08:27:11
I really want to read this book. Count me in.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 08:36:34
I LOVE Jill Shalvis’ books and hope that I can win this one!
marcy
Jan 19, 2009 @ 08:40:20
I don’t have a website to put the widget up on :(
…but I can certainly try to read more contemporaries. I tend to read m/m contemporary, and those are considered to be a different category.
I hate to see the contemporary die. The breadth of genres is part of what makes romance so great.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 08:55:33
it sounds like a great book. If I win, fantastic! if I don’t win, I’ll still be sure to pick it up!
Jan 19, 2009 @ 09:04:13
I think this is a great contest. Anything to promote reading!

Count me in! I would love to have a copy. :-)
Jan 19, 2009 @ 09:09:06
Wow, that is an unfortunate cover that book has. If I saw that book in the store I’d pass it up immediately for having such a stupid cover but it sounds interesting and if you guys like it then I’ll give it a chance as I like a good contemporary.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 09:11:03
I love any story that’s good. Would love to win a copy.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 09:17:49
Why do you people keep torturing us with books that aren’t out yet? Have you no idea that some of us want instant gratification?! I have to wait for everything else in life, waiting for good books is just adding far too much stress.
A free copy would make up for everything though. (Blinks with wide-eyed innocence.)
Jan 19, 2009 @ 09:21:11
*waving to get noticed*
Jan 19, 2009 @ 09:23:54

I love to read contemporary books. So I don’t understand why this would be a dying genre at all. So many of my favorite authors write in the genre.
I’ll be picking up a copy of this book at my next trip to the bookstore. So if my name is picked for a free copy please pick someone else.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 10:31:04
Throwing my name in the hat!

not a particularly attractive cover, but the premise sounds good
Jan 19, 2009 @ 11:07:59
If you say it’s good, then I am putting it on my list. But I have to agree with the previous commenters, the cover sucks.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 11:16:25
I’m sold. Sign me up, plz!
Jan 19, 2009 @ 11:17:07
You and SB Sarah both like it? I’m in. ;-)
Jan 19, 2009 @ 11:20:00
I’ve been a Jill Shalvis fan from back in her “Loveswept” days. Thanks for the review her newest stand alone book. Here I was thinking the other day there were no new books to look forward to this month and then I read this. Yay!
Jan 19, 2009 @ 11:20:05
I want to be entered! And it’s times like this that I wish I had a non-food blog (I don’t think the widget would make much sense on my cooking blog!).

Jan 19, 2009 @ 12:09:26
I’m surprised to hear the contemporary book is dying. I read so many of them and considering how many books I buy, I should be able to keep the genre afloat all on my own.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 12:14:37
I haven’t been reading too many contemporaries lately, but this sounds like a good one.
Jan 19, 2009 @ 12:24:47

Jan 20, 2009 @ 05:03:13
I started reading contemps way back in the 80′s. They remain my favorites!
So many of the authors switched to romantic suspense…Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, Linda Howard, Heather Graham, Julie Garwood. I’m not saying that they aren’t good reading. ..just not my favorite subgenre.
Jill’s book sounds wonderful! Her books always have lots of humor and sparkling chemistry!! I’d love to win “Instant Attraction”!!
Jan 20, 2009 @ 05:47:27
Sounds great! Please enter me too. I love contemps.
