Guest Opinion Poll

[poll id="110"]

I invited Joey Hill a while back to do a guest opinion on the Male Submissive, a trope which I think she might write better than anyone else. I held it so that it could serve as a promotional bit for her November release, Mermaid’s Kiss. I’m thinking of soliciting other “guest opinions” on topics. Would you like to see that or do you think that it’s content you could read elsewhere and you want to read what DA has to think on Tuesdays?

Jane Litte is the founder of Dear Author, a lawyer, and a lover of pencil skirts. She spends her downtime reading romances and writing about them. Her TBR pile is much larger than the one shown in the picture and not as pretty. You can reach Jane by email at jane @ dearauthor dot com

I voted yes, but not because of boredom.

Excuse me, I believe there should have been a “Yes, because its usually interesting but that doesn’t mean we don’t love DA” option.

I agree with Moth and AnotherRebecca; I love your voice and perceptive insight, Jane!

But there’s so much interesting stuff out there (and new stuff cropping up all the time) that it’s hard for one person (or a few) to keep up with. :)

I almost voted yes just for fun. :)

I voted no because I like the DA “voice,” but by “others in the romance community” I thought you meant other bloggers (which would be diluting, IMO). If you really meant authors, researchers, insiders, then sure.

BTW, as a promotional bit, the Joey Hill post worked on me. ;)

I don’t mind your voice at all plus I’m short on time so if I can get more opinions on romance from one place then more’s the better!

How about yes, but not because we’re tired of you? And I think MaryK is right–not other bloggers necessarily, but people with a certain expertise.

My “answers” are always meant to be kind of tongue in cheek. But yes, I do think that I would ask people to blog on very specific issues.

I voted no but maybe should have been maybe. Honestly, I love DA reviewers and am never bored. I’d welcome guest bloggers as long as it wasn’t necessarily promotional in nature. I’m on so many loops so that’s all I see. Industry news is always good. Tidbits from authors is always good. Guest reviews are good. Promotional – not so much. :D

I voted “maybe” and I think I agree with the vibe I’m getting from MaryK and Sarah. The Joey Hill piece I really liked, but I wanted to read it because Joey Hill is an expert in, or well known for that trope.

I’m not sure whether the expertise appeals to me, per se, or rather the fact that I didn’t have to WORK to know whose voice was speaking. I knew it was a guest and I knew which guest, and I knew why she was a good choice to write on that topic, and that was good enough.

I find it more taxing when I cannot figure out who is writing or who the heck they are and why I should care about their reviews or essays.

Like others, I voted yes, but not because I’m at all bored by the DA voices. I enjoyed the Joey Hill piece (it got a book sale from me), and would enjoy reading similar pieces about smaller genres in romance or up-and-coming themes, etc. Basically, the stuff that you DA ladies might be aware of but not necessarily well-versed in.

I said maybe because I enjoy your voice but wouldn’t mind an occasional quest post.

I voted maybe. I didn’t read the Hill article mainly because I have zero interest in BDSM but I certainly didn’t resent it being there for people who are interested in exploring it.

Your voice(s) are wonderful, and we can’t get enough. Your judgment we also trust, which is why I think ‘maybe’ is winning the poll. If you think a topic is worth covering, and in your judgment is best served by a guest writer, that’s good enough for me.

We can always skip topical posts not of interest. I just can’t skip reviews!

I’m with Mary K. I voted no because I trust the J’s POV and thoughtful opinions, even though I hardly ever comment. But I like reading what authors have to say, too. I loved that Hill post.
