Dear Author Giveaway You Won’t Want to Miss
I’ve never said that before, have I? Before I get to the upcoming news, let me remind the readers that there were two outstanding Caroline Linden ARC’s for her June book, A Rake’s Guide to Seduction. Two readers didn’t come forward so I am re-opening the opportunity. Caroline Linden writes smart historicals. I’ve always thought that her readership is the Madeline Hunter, Jane Feather readers. So if you like those two authors I think you’ll like Linden.
Now for the new News. A couple of months ago, I received the review copy for Loretta Chase’s Your Scandalous Ways. Chase has been a long time favorite and I’ve always said that Jessica Trent from Lord of Scoundrels is one of my most favorite heroines ever. That said, because I have such high expectations of Chase, I’m always a little afraid to start a new book in case I might be disappointed.
Let me just say that if Chase never writes another book after Your Scandalous Ways, her contribution to the romance genre would be exemplary. Your Scandalous Ways is a perfect book, in my opinion. I’m giving her an A. What’s more, three other people here at Dear Author have read it: Jayne, Jia and Robin. They would all give this book some variation of an A. (You’ll get to read Jayne’s thoughts near the release date).
We’ve had such good success in our past giveaways that I begged HarperCollins for a few early copies and they rustled up 5. Tomorrow you can read my expanded thoughts on the book and comment for a copy. The contest will be a question about the excerpt so you might want to read it tonight and be prepared. Also, I am gushing tomorrow so maybe don’t eat breakfast before you read the post.

GULP! I love Loretta Chase. I know everyone is a fan of Lord of Scoundrels (and I mean no disrespect to that amazing book, which I enjoyed oh so much!), but my favourite Loretta Chase book (and perhaps my favourite romance book ever) is Knave’s Wager. *ducks*

So, if I comment today I’m in the running for the Caroline Linden book (which would be much awesomeness, as there is such joy in unearthing a previously unread, and high quality, author — surpassed only by the extreme joy of unearthing a high quality previously unread author who has been writing for quite some while and thus has gobs and gobs of backlist available *Jo Goodman, where have you been all my life*)…and this has become such a run-on sentence that I can’t even decode the necessary punctuation, so feel free to supply something [here]
Hope I’m in for the Caroline Linden, and I’ll fight thru the crowds to be back tomorrow for Loretta damn Chase.

I’ve it pre-ordered too, but I’d still like an ARC. (Same book, only sooner. What could be better?) Still, I usually avoid excerpts and reviews if I know I’m going to read something. I’d rather come to it fresh, and then read the reviews afterwards, to see if my experience matches up.
Complete dilemma.
I’ll see how patient I’m feeling in the morning…

Damn!!! I have to WAIT for a new Loretta Chase while others have read it already. As good as my favorite romance EVER (LOS)?? Must preorder now cuz I know I won’t win, sigh.

Marianne – I understand. Even if I was one for contests, I wouldn’t enter this one because I have to read the excerpt. I can’t read a Chase excerpt and not want the remainder of the story RIGHT THAT MOMENT. That’s just cruel and unusual.

I’m on the fence with Ann Bruce and Marianne McA, because I don’t like excerpts–they tend to either fire me for the read NOW, or they spoil the experience of the book when I finally get around to reading it.

Loretta Chase, IMO, is right next to Heyer in the Pantheon of great Romance novelists.
I am very interested in the Linden book.
I’m really looking forward to reading your review – I’ll be sure to have a few towels handy, just in case. ;)

The Chase book is a straight A for me — one of my favorite books of the past few years and my favorite Chase ever (I adored most of the Carsington books, didn’t love her old Avon books and was disappointed in Not Quite A Lady). As Jane said, if she never wrote another book, this one would be a career high, IMO.

While LOS is really my #1 romance favourite, Knaves Wager comes very, very close. The reason is that it sort of reminded me a bit of Dangerous Liasons. But aside from that, I love that book and enjoyed every minute reading it. Loretta Chase was at her best there. And the secondary romance of Cecily and Robert was such a fun read and a lovely contrast between that of Lilith and Brandon. It’s a pity that it’s an old and probably out of print book so it’s not so well known as her current ones.
